Islamabad: The Obama administration has told Pakistan to either propose a practicable alternative to its drone attacks on high-value targets with n al Qaeda and Taliban links in Pakistan's tribal areas orstop publicly criticising such attacks.

Diplomatic sources inIslamabad said themessage was conveyed by American special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke during his recent Islamabad visit.

He expressed doubts about Pakistan's capacity to hit high-value targets and pointed to the 'failure' of the armed forces to root out al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders despite an intense operation and displacement of about two million people.

According to Pakistani officials, the drone strikes have resulted in the death of 800 civilians, including women and children.

How difficult is it to provide Pakistan with the hardware and let our Armed forces do whatever and however we find appropriate. Americans are not the Wisest Nations neither they understand our people and our territory better than we do.

Yes Americans are desperate but dont know how to fix situation in Afghanistan. Now they cannot fight Afghan Taliban neither they can ally with them. Americans will face defeat Inshallah and they deserve it well. So either we shut-up or not, American @ss is going to hurt and like never before :cheesy:

The point which US ignores altogether is that it is Pakistan teritory and civilinas are dying.
I wonder how the American people might react to there govt. if civilians die in US?
I know US has reports that some terrorists are there but after so many attacks no dead terrorists has been paraded to confirm their claims.

For Pakistan more important is to eliminate army of TTP, which is hijacking remote villages in NWFP and has killed more Pakistanis than Americans died in 9/11!
This was just to hint the severity of an oragnisation with whom Pakistan is fighting a war on various front all alone like its no concern of the remaining world.
Surprise is that Pakistan see Afghan involvement in terroism killing Pakistani school girls.
Such an irrelevant behavior from rest of the world hints discrimination, when it comes to terrorist organisations, based on their objectives and killings?

Simple answer to subject matter is that, drones are making Pakistan's WOT difficult and we have already spent lot of human resources involving the following complications, costing a poor nation bit too much and our economy cannot pay any more for the human resource and logisitcs involved in finding alternate solutions for US problems or solving any consequences originating from US actions inside or out side our teritories.

It is a known fact that historicaly Pak troops were always located on more risky southern borders and now since TTP influx we have to move our troops to northern front leaving our southern front unguarded. This has incurred huge costs and risks, all those states involved in sponsoring and arming TTP should be billed for all operational costs.

I think in this war with foreign sponsored TTP, very soon Pakistan will not be able to pay for the resorces required even to make replies to US inquireis.

Perhaps, Pakistan had to cut down expenses of its own war and had to look for alternate solutions.. rather than going for all out war.
I think hitting the supply lines of TTP would be much cheaper and most effective solution for a poor state like Pakistan.

Or premptive strikes on Karzai palace could help him to reconsider its policy of using all US ecnomic and military aid to export terrorism to Pakistan!

Dont forget that pakistan is living n surviving on American AID otherwise without it they are bankrupt and pakistan will cease to exist as a country according to their present situation n condition. So its not a Big thing if America tells pakistan to Shut up. But if pakistan was strong enough n had a strong economy and were not dependend on usa then America has no right to tell pakistan what to do.

Its not the issue.

Issue is our politicians.

Don't rant without reading my post....
Cost of our man hours spent on consequencies of american actions amounts to billions.
We loose about 35 billions annually in our economy since we have govt. which is willing to accept nonsense in the name of aid.
Our parliament is all set to reject the US aid bill.

But do you know American and wests aid to india? it is much more than Pakistan?

We don't need few hundred millions to survive, we can save billions in costs if we stop dealing or replying USA.

.
So why dont you do it then. If that was so then why did Mussharaff admit in his biography that he had no other option other than to help US for Pakistan's existence.
And the weapons on whose basis you all get excited like kids:victory: and think of threatining India are given to you as donation by which country. US.
So actually you all have bcome like dogs of US and dont even think of threatining or questioning US. The day u do so u all r gone.

Musharaf was pro iranian just wanted to crush talaban regime , also helped Iran for missile technology.

Infact india is acting like search and hunt dog of US interfering inside balouchistan and NWFP.

We can fight against any super power dont worry :azn:

Did we expected something different?

Ridiculous news report with added mirch-masala from an unreliable, sensationalist news outlet. The title gave it all away. Typical lower-order Indian media. Good job, blueoval. Next time, we'll be reading "US to India: GTFO of Afghanistan".

Holbrooke is not an idiot, and neither is the Obama administration. But yeah, they are ticked about our duality on drone strikes. We're ticked too. Our proposed solution keeps getting denied. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

A thread that starts with a sensationalist news report can't possibly be productive. I ask the Mods to close this thread.

Why get so bent out of shape over a report in the Indian media?

Remember the distortions of Musharraf comments, the "Dharavi vs Orangi' claims, etc.?

But to answer the question, "to either propose a practicable alternative to its drone attacks on high-value targets with n al Qaeda and Taliban links in Pakistan's tribal areas ".

Yes, there is an alternative Pakistan has been proposing for a long time now - Pakistan be given control of the drones, we provide a lot of the intel for those strikes anyway.

This statement attributed to US officials is rather laughable, "He expressed doubts about Pakistan's capacity to hit high-value targets and pointed to the 'failure' of the armed forces to root out al-Qaeda and Taliban leaders despite an intense operation and displacement of about two million people." What planet is this official living on?

A significant number of the top TTP leadership in Swat has been killed or captured, and the majority of the 2 million dispaced have returned to their homes, and incidents of terrorism are way down, while arrests and surrenders of militants have crossed 3000 in Swat. Tha Pakistani military is riding a huge wave of support and popularity in Swat becasue of that.

In addition, Pakistan has been responsible for arresting and killing multiple AQ and Taliban leaders in Pakistan over the past few years outside of Swat - far more HVT's than NATO can boast of. What we lack is the technology, not the commitment.

By most measures that is a very successful campaign - perhaps the official is suffering from a bout of envy given NATO's contrasting spectacular failures in Afghanistan.

I am skeptical of the veracity of the story given the reasons above, but if such a claim was made by US officials, the rebuttal is pretty easy.

Pakistani controllers of drones will be trusted by Pakistanis to avoid pulling the trigger in case of possible significant collateral damage, whereas American controllers are not.

Hand over the drones, its not your territory Yanks, and where you go you make an unqualified failure of things, going by Afghanistan.

The United States has totally lost the plot, the 'practical alternative' has been proposed many times , which is:

Give Pakistan the drones and let us take care of those who create anarchy on our side of the border and since Afganistan is under US occupation the United States is resposible for bringing order there.

Blaming Pakistan is not going to make the troubles they have in Afghanistan go away.

WTF kind of a thread title is that? There is just no limit to Pak bashing in Indian media and the cyber clowns who get wet at the sight of such derogatory news headlines and run to Pak forum boards to post it. That, and the news about a bomb blast in Pakistan, just makes the day of an Indian cyber fanatic. I would request the mods to delete/lock the thread or change the title of the thread with a strict warning to the person posting such crap.

Musharraf to criticise India ties on US lecture tour: Report
Britain News.Net
Thursday 10th September, 2009 (IANS)

Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf is expected to criticise warm US-India ties on a 40-day lecture tour of the US beginning Tuesday, a British newspaper reported Thursday.

Musharraf, who has been living in London while facing legal action in Pakistan for unlawfully declaring Emergency rule in 2007, said he will seek to redress Pakistan's poor international image.

'Pakistan is a most misunderstood country. I enjoy the opportunity to clear up misperceptions,' he told The Guardian newspaper.

The paper said in particular the former dictator :hitwall: is expected to be critical of Washington's close ties with India - reflecting a view widely held in Pakistani military circles.

It said some journalists have dubbed him Pakistan's 'army ambassador' to London.

Musharraf's 16 lectures are being organised by the Harry Walker Agency, whose others speakers include former US vice president Dick Cheney.

His audiences will include members of the Young President's Organisation, a forum for aspiring American leaders.

Musharraf has been living in a three-bedroom apartment in an Arab quarter in London since June.

His main political opponent, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif whom Musharraf ousted in a 1999 coup, is attempting to sue him for treason - an offence that carries the death penalty.

However, the former dictator told The Guardian: 'I am not in exile.'
