Correct, because you can only 'give' something that belongs to you in the first place. Kashmir belongs to the Kashmiri people not to India or Pakistan.

Solution is simple, stop behaving like the high school bully, stop trying to subvert our state and other smaller states. Instead cooperate with them in business and human development.

Indian aspirations of hegemonic control over other nations at the expense of the poor Indians wont help Indian elite's cause. People note every move and no, they are not stupid.

Its not about a separate country, nor it is about a merger with either state. Its about two things.

1: Unification of the divided Kashmiri people along the LOC, who are living under India and Pakistan, away from their families and culture.
2: Their due right to self determination, either be it a merger with either state or a state of their own.

Personally, i'd prefer to unify both sides of the LoC into a new country, so they can worry about their own business and stop dragging us into a war that only cockroaches are going to win.

The second point - I disagree with you - self determination is not in question similar to other 500 princely states - take my state - Tamilnadu which has nothing common with almost the rest of the country and was calling for separate Tamilnadu since 1930s but had everything granted by Indian Union - especially from Language POV - non-enforcement of Hindi and English provided official status nowadays has seen the separate TN calls vanish completely. If someone calls for separate TN today will be destroyed by the people in TN. These Kashmiris have only two choices - either integrate with Pakistan or India. And in the power struggle between India and Pakistan, whoever wins will have Kashmir and lets see how future holds out.

This is such a pointless argument. There is no way India is going to leave Kashmir, anyone thinking that needs to start counting their marbles. It simply doesn't matter whether or not this will bedevil India-Pakistan relations forever, there is not many takers in India who are willing to pay this asking price for Pakistani friendship.

Yep! Pakistan is a super power! Not even the Almighty can defeat it! It's the greatest country ever on mother Earth. It single handedly defeated the Soviet Union, India, and now the USA!

Though Kashmir is a disputed region, the emotional investment for Indians are too much(I understand it is the same for Pakistanis as well) it is virtually impossible for Kashmir(the part under India's control) to go for self-determination - For example, what has Kashmir got to do with someone like me from TN? It was not much before 1999 except I was brought up reading that Kashmir belonged to India but today if you ask me I would say I do not want one of my batchmates' sacrifice to go waste(he was one of the first officers to lose his life in Kargil and coincidentally my wife lost her friend in the last stages of war when the war had virtually stopped and he went on a patrol) - today I would raise the question what is that, which is being provided to other states within India, not being given to the Kashmiris, they want a separate nation.
