America says China’s fifth-generation jet fighter J-31 stolen from its F-35

NEW DELHI: American experts have accused China of stealing the US design in its first indigenously developed fifth-generation fighter jet, which was displayed at Dubai Airshow on Sunday, raising doubts over the achievement of the country which has stolen a march over India in developing the aircraft.

US defence and strategic affairs experts alleged that the design of the FC-31 "Gyrfalcon" or J-31, which was showcased for the first time abroad according to a Chinese military run portal, was stolen from the US-made F-35 in April 2009 when Chinese hackers entered the networks of American defence equipment maker Lockheed Martin.

The FC-31's airframe is similar to that of the F-35. The FC-31 also has two internal weapons bays that can carry guided and unguided weapons, just like the F-35.

"The similarity includes the use of two tracking mirrors and a flat-facetted optical window, with bottom fuselage placement just aft the radar radome," IHS Jane's Defence Weekly said.

The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) is trying to sell FC-31 as an alternative to Lockheed Martin's F-35 joint strike fighter. Besides Chinese Air Force, Iran and Pakistan are understood to have shown some interest in this fighter jet.

AVIC officials present at the Dubai Airshow hailed the aircraft's "outstanding situational awareness" and said that the FC-31 is designed for "the demands of future battlefield environments".

Most aircraft experts believe, though, that China's F-35 cannot compete with the American fifth-generation aircraft. But not much is known about the aircraft, which has derivatives of Russian engine at this stage.

This aircraft first flew at the Zhuhai Air Show in China in 2014 and could reach full operational capability in 2024.

How many times should the people of the world hear the same story? US propaganda machine working like a clock with a little bit of Goebbels flavor this time. Replace English with US in the text below and enjoy being fooled.

The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous.

Chinese Scientists Unveil New Stealth Material Breakthrough

A group of scientists from China mayhave created a stealth material that could make future fighter jets very difficult to detect by some of today’s most cutting-edge anti-stealth radar.

The researchers developed a new material they say can defeat microwave radar at ultrahigh frequencies, or UHF. Such material is usually too thick to be applied to aircraft like fighter jets, but this new material is thin enough for military aircraft, ships, and other equipment.

Today’s synthetic aperture radar use arrays of antennas directing microwave energy to essentially see through clouds and fog and provide an approximate sense of the object’s size, the so-called radar cross section. With radar absorbent material not all of the signal bounces back to the receiver. A plane can look like a bird.

“Our proposed absorber is almost 10 times thinner than conventional ones,” said Wenhua Xu, one of the team members from China’s Huazhong University of Science and Technology, in a statement.

In their paper, published today in the Journal of Applied Physics, the team describes a material composed of semi-conducting diodes (varactors) and capacitors that have been soldered onto a printed circuit board. That layer is sitting under a layer of copper resistors and capacitors just .04 mm thick, which they called an “active frequency selective surface material” or AFSS. The AFSS layer can effectively be stretched to provide a lot of absorption but is thin enough to go onto an aircraft. The next layer is a thin metal honeycomb and final is a metal slab.

The good news: the material isn’t locked away in a lab but published openly, so it’s not going to surprise anyone.

Stealth is considered by many to be one of the key technologies that enabled U.S. military dominance throughout the last century, effectively neutralizing, or offsetting, technological gains made by rival nations and the Soviet empire.

“In the 1970s, Secretary of Defense Harold Brown, working closely with Undersecretary – and future Defense Secretary – Bill Perry, shepherded their own offset strategy, establishing the Long-Range Research and Development Planning Program that helped develop and field revolutionary new systems, such as extended-range precision-guided munitions, stealth aircraft, and new intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms,” former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said at a November 2014 event outlining the Pentagon’s newest technological push.

The F-35’s stealth capabilities are often touted as the jet’s most valuable feature. But in 2009, China was reportedly able to steal design and electronics data related to the program. China’s J-31 fighter resembles the F-35 to an uncanny degree, leaving many to wonder if the electronics on the inside are a match as well.

The publication today won’t answer that question but does speak to a growing Chinese capability in stealth technology, an area where the United States once had clear dominance.

Your news is old.
Shenyang WS-10 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For progressive nation such China, a few years can make a very drastic difference.

I Think You Don't Read Stuff Before Posting Its a Under-powered Engine

Its reported that the WS-10A approached the performance of the Saturn AL-31, but took much longer than the AL-31 to develop thrust.Furthermore, reportedly the engine only generated 110–125 kilonewtons (25,000–28,000 lbf) of thrust. In April 2009, Lin Zuoming, head of AVIC, reported that the engine's quality was unsatisfactory.

In 2010, it was reported that reliability was also poor; the WS-10A lasted only 30 hours, while the AL-31 needed refurbishing after 400 hours. The quality problems encountered with the WS-10A reflected the state of the Chinese aerospace industry; AVIC initiated a general effort to improve quality control throughout its production chain in 2011

Unconfirmed reports claimed the first flight of the J-11D was powered by a new WS-10 variant; the variant reportedly had improved reliability, with a thrust of more than 13t, and less than that of the AL-31F-M1. The flight was revealed in early May 2015

Even Current Sukhoi Mki has More powerful Engines than WS-10A which Clearly Very Low Powered Engine For any 5th gen Fighter or Even 4.5 Gen Fighters

WS-10A and its variants have been entered into active service in PLAAF and PLANY. I don't really know what you try to prove here.

Well, after getting used to HAL's typical case of sucking in funding for decades without delivery and substandard maintenance work, he is probably very distrustful (read, envious) of anyone can be competent.

There no officials confirmation except for Fanboys of sino-defence forums

Same Typical Claims for Chinese AESA fanboys describing j-11D fitted with Aesa equivalent to F-22 with equal number of T/R module's

unlike PLA iaf woudn't hide crahes

like killed test pilots of J-11b.

we are open to public scrutiny we didn't hide are capabilities in name of classified

all Chinese to is reverse engineer stuff's with no own
innovations

when they are asked for Technical data to sustain there arguments they usually hide behind flame baits or personal attacks or raising poverty

.
Chinese are not like some superpower which loves to make announcements after announcements but deliver nothing. One photo on a military publication is enough to get point across. I guess this is a cultural thing. :cheesy:
Only you are special country which have such policy
what do you guys scared of Western scrutiny

Even Russians put their every Technical Achievements in public domain Unlike Chinese fanboys
who make bold claims

For example is Chinese AESA Fanboys believe that with just one generation of AESA development China overtaken both Russians and western in T/R module's packaging technology

when they asked for technical data to sustain theirs arguments all they come up with Photoshop images posted some Forum by other fanboys

Who cares? As long as Chinese can deliver the results. You see, Chinese are not bunch of big-mouth, they just do things quietly and surprise everyone once in a while. The other superpower is about all talks, but just can't deliver. Sad!

IF results are not satisfactory why all boosting then

for eg WS-10 engine story the project was started just to replace AL-31 but in the End you have to satisfy with Low end engine with low thrust and with reliability issues.

.
And you agree with Goebbel's statement?

Of course I do. There is no absolute good or absolute evil in the world. Also there is no person who is always right or always wrong. Despite Goebbels had many sick ideas he sometimes made true observations. Just like the one I quoted.
