AMCA configuration in final stages

India still has long way to go, I think china will have fully operational stealthy fighter at year 2018. Don't know what USA will have at that time? A Six gen fighter?

We are always a generation behind.

Agreed
IMO,seeing huge efforts in R&D china will be able to develop 5th generation powerplant by 2020,while induction of j-20 will occur around 2020-2021.

Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works division has revealed a conceptual next-generation fighter design that offers the first hints of an ambitious, long-term technology strategy for the new class of tactical aircraft that will emerge after 2030.

mean while in the year 2018 usa may have about 600-800 JSF.

. .
The prototypes comes out on time. The problems happens right after.

Anyways, the first flight is a long time from now. :/

Any delivery schedule?

Expected flight testing by 2017,

Expected production variant
optimistically 2021 - If government agencies like MoD and IAF do not help.
Pessimistically 2025 - by HAL standards
Pessimistically 2030 - by Ada Standards
Pessimistically 2040 - MoD/IAF change requirements and try to help

Sometimes after 2020. Since they are going to use the experience they get from building the Rafale or the technology from PAK FA into making the AMCA. And considering both aircrafts are not going to be inducted till 2015-2020 the AMCA project would most likely be 2025 to 2030.

The delays are mostly because of the constant changes and the fact that HAL and ADA put all the things in one basket. So if one things gets delayed everything else follows and get delayed.

Dont take away my right for some ada humor;)

Produce, NOT develop and that is the key problem that many forgets. HAL can produce composites, certain avionics, but still fail in the design stages of nearly all current aircraft designs.
Samtel can produce current gen MFDs, but for NG single screen touchscreens we need JVs with Israeli companies...
Tata can produce a self-propelled-howitzer, but can't develop it, just like OFB couldn't.

We achieve all this with our access to foreign partners, because that is the fastes way to do it and gain from their advanced know how.
Anybody who belives we could develop AMCA on our own with the industrial capability we have today, must have missed that we didn't even finished a 4th gen fighter development, that we can contribute only a smaller part to the development of FGFA (which is even lower now than initially expected, since no re-design to twin seat seems to be needed anymore), or that our engine and radar developments are in deep problems as well.

A rational view on our capabilities and our needs is badly lacking in Indian defence developments, that was the problem for LCA and that sadly continues to be the problem for AMCA!

Project LCA was revolutionary in terms of setting up cutting edge aerospace facilities. LCA was just a medium or in otherwise a product to study the requirements a country would need to build a fighter jet indigenously. LCA Tejas gave birth to institutions and team's like ADA,DARE,CLAW,ADE etc.

Now we have taken up a real project, the AMCA. The technological advancement we have achieved in terms of aeronautics and aerospace is huge. Delay in LCA was not because of Technology, but because it was not headed by a single institution, the design by ADA, R&D by DRDO and HAL, Manufacturing by NAL and HAL, subsystems by Pvt Industries and other PSU's.

What AMCA needs is a single or a consortium of companies headed by a single person to work in terms of R&D,Design, development,Manufacturing and Marketing and above all the IAF must be kept on loop to avoid difference in opinions at later stages.

Now coming to your point. Our contribution to PAK-FA/FGFA is limited because we have been chosen to contribute at what we are best at and the obvious answer would be Software. The rest they can better us, but that does not mean that we cannot do it. We are just cutting the R&D cost by investing on an Aircraft in the name of Joint venture. We learn the technology and can also drive the baby home.

Not to be pessimist coz...

1. IAF will not change the requirement...
2. Requirement is freezed and work has started.
3. Almost all componenets are tested on LCA. (Landing Gear, Engine, Avionics, EW Suits etc)
4. Just design new machine and test it...

Only challenge is Stealth design (and Design)...

Sandy sir , you mind explaining 2017 ??? I too think that but mine was a guess ;)

Sir any news on the which engine it will be using? Because earlier report said the Kaveri, but the engine project is hit a road block so are there plans for a replacement engine like the one that will be used in the PAK FA.

We if we can make a TD fly by 2017. It would be a good achievement. If I am not mistaken, 2 TD's and 7 Prototypes will be made before it is inducted.

Why would you need 2 TD's? Tejas had only one, this when we didnt even have the infrastructure for R&D for advanced aircraft design. Now that most of such infrastructure is in place, then is there really a need for 2 TD's? I mean the sub systems/technologies can be tested on other platforms configured to behave as the new aircraft.

If I am not mistaken Tejas had 2 Technology demonstrators aswell.. TD's are built to test various subsystems, the design changes and other parameters. The reason why India goes for two, might be to test the complimenting and contradicting features of design and other parameters when subjected to use. It is only then do you finalize a better platform to build a prototype.

Not all sub systems can be simulated or tested on different platforms, the performance varies.

The AMCA will use GE414 IN for testing purpose which can deliver "KN thrust"

The long time plan is to put Kavery as heart of this machine, But unlike LCA Kaveri is not linked to this project. IF Kaveri work then fine else GE414 Jindabad....

Read this as welll

F414-GE-INS6
India's Aeronautical Development Agency selected the F414-GE-INS6 engine to power the Mk II version of the HAL Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) for the Indian Air Force. 99 engines were ordered in October 2010. The engine is to produce more thrust than previous F414 versions. It features a Full Authority Digital Electronic Control (FADEC) system.[21] The F414-GE-INS6 is to have six stages. The engines are to be delivered by 2013.[22]
