AMCA configuration in final stages

ADA and DRDO are doing a full fledged job. Who would be the lead integrator, keeping in Mind the HAL's busy schedule. Will the HAL facility be upgraded to support AMCA project or has it already been?

Bangalore: Twelve years after India finally shown the courage to take a home-grown combat fighter for its maiden flight in Bangalore, scientists at the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in Vimanapura, near Old Airport, are ready to unleash the next big desi dream called, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). Military sources confirm to Express that the configuration of AMCA has reached the final stages. At the biennial carnival of the flying machines, set to begin at Yelahanka Air Force Station next week, India will for the first time showcase a 1:8 model of the AMCA, revealing some of its capabilities via super-graphics.
The AMCA project, kept completely under wraps in the last couple of years, will be officially India’s maiden foray into a stealth programme. The Doubting Thomas might have eyebrows up hearing the AMCA news, considering the Light Combat Programme (LCA) Tejas still has to travel some distance before the Indian Air Force (IAF) finally accepts it.
The AMCA, being tipped as the next generation multi role combat aircraft, is designed to meet the needs of the IAF. It is conceived in the medium weight category, with twin engine. “We have reached some level of technology maturity now with the help of DRDO and CSIR labs, in addition to some select-private companies. A new technology is onboard for weapon release, considering AMCA will have an internal weapon bay,” sources said. Understandably, when operational, the AMCA design will ensure that it ducks enemy radars, thanks to its low-signature patterns.
The shape of the aircraft is what makes AMCA different. Along with its modern air intake features, new materials, pilot comfort and the ergonomic cockpit design, scientists claim that the aircraft will have good capability to carry out air-to-air missions required for air superiority, which includes point defence, area defence and escort. “As a multi-role fighter, the aircraft will also have adequate strike capability with emphasis on critical opening day missions like SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense), DEAD (Destruction of Enemy Air Defense) and precision strike,” sources said.
Currently the scientists are engaged in various scale model tests for the configuration of the design. With an initial government funding sanctioned in 2011 for a feasibility study, sources say that in the next few months a feasible design of AMCA should be out. Currently, a small team of scientists at ADA is concentrating on the design. The expected maiden flight should be by the end of the decade.

So as DRDO iterated it earlier, it will be much more ground attack type fighter. Good decision by IAF.
 
haha.20 years development cycle is not too long,even for US .F22 was planed in 1981 and equiped in 2005,24 years .
and in the end of the artical The expected maiden flight should be by the end of the decade.
equiped after 10 years of its first flight is not so very slow ,right???taking into account the DELAYs, my question is reasonable. :cheesy:

We already have the tech. from PAK FA(Russia),Israel(experience in Su 30MKI) and Dassault. This time the development will take less time.
 
and what are the 5th gen engines they are planning for it ?

If sources are to be believed ADA has send a Technical requirement detail for the engines which will power India’s locally developed 5th Generation fighter aircraft to the GTRE recently .ADA which is the prime development organisation of the Advance Medium Combat Aircraft is looking for an engine in 100 to 110 kn thrust range, and while the work on the preliminary designs are almost done and work on the AMCA Project will officially began from July 2011 onwards for which 2 billion Dollars have already been allocated for the AMCA Project.

GTRE has successfully carried out first batch of on board trials on a modified IL-76 Test Bed in Russia. Even though Kaveri engine project has been delinked from LCA Project few years back , GTRE is still hope full that current Kaveri engines might power Tejas MK-1 aircrafts when their GE Provided F-404IN engines will come up for replacement.

GTRE and French for long time wanted to work on a new Kaveri Hybrid based on M-88-3 Eco, but due to GTRE engine already been delinked on LCA Project , French wanted specific commitment on the engine order , now if the news is correct then the joint venture might finally start off .

ADA is taking very similar approach like it did with LCA Project and will roll out first Technological Demonstrators (AMCA TD-1 and TD-2) in next 5 to 6 years and have first flight in next one year after the roll out. Experts believe that ADA might use GE Provided F-414IN engine which has been already selected by ADA to power Tejas MK-2 jets.

I read some where, The testing will be done using GE414, If Kaveri will be ready then Kavery will go in production model else GE414 will be use.

I read that GE414 can provide supercruise capability (without aftrburner)

HAL have upgraded the assembly jigs for the LCA in order to ramp up production and if they become Lead Integrator also for the Rafale how can they do it for AMCA? seems like they are biting off more than they can chew in my view.

We need private firms also to help such as Reliance and Tata defence that is just my own opinion.

Kaveri powering AMCA ? ROFL !! an underpowered engine to start with which doesn't even have 5th gen characterstics.. now even the basic ones !!
 
^^ Chances of kaveri being used in AMCA are high.

But if Kaveri is not used M 88-2 s with needed modifications is logical choice

If we succeed in making Kaveri reliable engine and making it power plant of AMCA, its NAFB version can be used in IUSAV.

Exactly what I was wondering. We need to Pull in NAL even though it does not come under MOD. Pvt companies are bad Idea, It will be another LCA in the making.
