What's new

ALMOST EVERYTHING we use in Pakistan is imported.

Where do all the components for all these appliances assembled in Pakistan come from?

Pakistan doesn't produce them. In fact Pakistanis go out of their way to make sure to sell even local products as imported. About 6 months ago I brought geyser which was apparently imported, guess the brand? Hugo Boss lmao

95-97% of all the produce used by 95% of Pakistanis is all locally produced...this FATSO must be talking about some imported Alcoholic drinks....
Have a causal look at imports and then look at exports please. This should enlighten you as to the facts. Then you can better judge this 'fatso'.

Exports

$24.824 billion (FY 2018)[15]
Imports

$56.002 billion (FY 2018)[18

You can see Pakistan imports vastly more then it exports ~ the figure being by $32 billion. Which of course is the cause of the economic crash in the economy.

This is where so called locally made home appliance are imported through to be assembled in Pakistan.
Home made appliances are not cheap either so there is no advantage of buying these local ones over others well known brands. Fawad Choudhry should know that imports in Pakistan has reached all time high of 734578 PKR Million in May 2019 during his government

Pakistan’s major exports communities are textile, rice and leather but their contribution in export has been decreasing due to various factors including the increase in the prices of inputs, shortage of energy, load-shedding of power and gas, increasing in taxes, political crisis in the country and corruption of the political leaders and strong competition at the international markets.

The share of three products, textile, rice and leather is more than 70 percent in the exports of the country so when there is less export of these products, the overall export targets will not be achieved.

Pakistan has also failed to improve its share in the international market and the only exports to already available markets in USA, China, UAE, Afghanistan and European Union were declined in the last four years due to lack of interest by the government and for taking adequate measures to boost exports in these markets as more than 60 percent of the total exports destinations are in just these few countries.

Sources at Ministry of Commerce, while highlighting the factors affecting the cost of production in Pakistan said that increase in energy tariff, increase in interest rate which is at 7.5 percent, highest in the region, highest corporate taxes in the region, highest rate of duties, taxes, surcharges on export and less installed capacity utilization in the region.

Pakistan need to expand broader into semi skilled and skilled manufacturing if they want to increase their exports or business base because right now Pakistan is basically agrarian and low skilled labour manufacturing

A few initiatives which if implemented by mid to end 2021 can start to change the agricultural and live stock picture (which is not at all this bleek) of pakistan by end of 2027 are
1... Palm oil cultivation along sindh coastal regions
2... Government sponsored or supported tree plantation in potohar region extending to south and north waziristan should only include olive trees. All other varieties to be allowed on private basis only.
3... Tomatoe cultivation in farm houses or via hydroplantation
4... Setting up a dozen or more soil testing labs across pakistan and gettibg their audits done annually via a 3rd party.
5... A 10 year breeding program for neeli bar and badin variety of Buffalo on a large scale and supplying them to interested farmers. These 2 varieties give double the amount of milk than normal varieties. Pakistanis love buffalo milk or a mixture of Buffalo and cow milk.
6... A 10 year breeding program for beetle variety of goats.
7... Setting up a poultry industry export zone near gawader.
8... Doing an audit of all the agricultural universities and research units. If possible send them to gallows.
9... Firing all the trade missions in foreign countries/embassies and hiring professionals whose performance is reviewed biannualy.

Above can lead to pakistan being a net exporter of edible oil, meat, milk and poultry within a decade. The rest of the areas will take time. Mind u edible oil and milk products are one of the biggest contributors to food related import bill
