What's new

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association announces closure of 200 mills from tomorrow

There is only 1 solution for this i.e. Privatization. And this should be done ASAP.

1) Privatize all 197 loss making state owned enterprises
2) Privatize all government schools, colleges and hospitals (Government education and hospitals are garbage anyways)

Then with the money that we save, start investing and developing industries.
And make everything 'expensive' for the public in the process.

Let's as @Arsalan ... Bro, what's this about then?
Sorry i have not checked the thread? Can you please tell me what exactly you are asking about? I will go through the thread later (will try :) ) If it about the strike in general or you were referring to something more specific? @Verve

Bro, Do you know why things are "expensive"???
Its because government have to pay our taxes for these loss making state owned enterprises.

Not to mention the garbage education in government schools and colleges where ghost teachers takes salary which we pay from our taxes and those ghost teachers are doing their own businesses or working in foreign countries. In Sindh there are thousands of ghost schools. Same is the case in Punjab, KPK and Balochistan but Sindh takes the lead.

Same is the case of government hospitals where doctors instead of practicing in hospitals are running their private clinics.

Privatization is the only way. In an ideal scenario, reforming these institutions would be the way to go. But we can not do that here where mafias can go to strike then go for stay order in courts and whatnot.

They are lieing.. Blackmailing tactics to the govt

what makes you claim this ?

are you a textile mill owner ?

are you from the govt tax collection dept ?

have you ever done a business / trade in your life ?

have you calculated product input cost for manufacturing ? input taxes ?

have you studied int;l markets ? what is price competitiveness ?

have you gone through the trouble in your life to take the risk of setting up a business unit, hiring people and paying taxes ?

---------------------------------------

i would really appreciate your response on the above vs a lame one liner ( which this forum is full of these days )

What the hell? Of course devaluation, gas and oil price hike, more and more taxes, are putting businesses on the edge, they have to increase their prices to account for the expenses and that makes it harder for them to compete in the International market. This is very bad news, textile is one of the most major export products. This is not blackmailing.

It was known from first day what effect this will have. Businesses will profit less, many will close down, the loans will increase many folds since revenue generation is in Rupees and payment is in USD, the buying power of people will decrease, we put a gun shot in our own leg and hurt our industry badly.

yes

and we were told that devaluing the PKR would boost exports

quiet the opposite is happening !

You bloody idiot. Govt has already given so many concessions to these exporters yet they want more. Go and check the list of subsidiaries these people are enjoying than post.

such as .......... ?

Learn to code.

Life is tough - if you cannot survive in the free market that's too bad. Government has no role propping up private businesses.

are you even sane ? are you even in your senses ?

are you suggesting that the millions employed in textile sector, once they are laid off ,they will learn to code in a day and become bill gates ??

yes. life is tough ,

life will be made more tough for govt couch potatoes and PTI blind followers like you when people rise and revolt against these unjust and imposed IMF taxes

^^and please dont tell there wont be a peasents revolt here

Maybe they should look for viable business alternatives rather than looking towards government handouts to run their businesses.

If they are in the red just by introducing 17% gst, they should first learn how to run a business by spending some time in a bigger textile mill to learn the trade.

another useless, pointless post by PTI fanboy kids

1. do you know the intl competition in textile products ? vietnam ,china, BD ?

2. do you know anything about input costs in manufacturing ? elec and gas tariffs ?

3. the textile sector was given 'rebates' , not handouts. pl google the difference

honestly, this forum has become a gutter. the sheer ignorance, arrogance and low IQ posts make me think that we deserve whats happening to us ...

Honestly if you can't compete, try another business. Rebates/handouts what is the difference? In the end it is taxpayer money because we end up subsidizing your non-feasible business idea which goes in the red by a government levy of 17% gst.

You sound like an Islamic bank trying to sell its services by saying oh but it is not interest!

pfft peasants revolt. Billionaire mill owners are complaining the poor mans taxes aren't being gifted to them and you think we'll have a peasants revolt. Pakistan will never have a peasants revolt.

1. Our people are followers of darbari politics. If they've not revolted to this day, don't expect anything soon.

2. If they didn't revolt when their most of their jobs flew off to Bangladesh, they won't revolt now.

3. It's not the peasants whining and bitching - it's the wealthy. The peasants are busy surviving. They've never had nutella - they can't even afford parantha in the morning, they eat dry roti and have it with qawa.

"Learn to code" is not intended literally, it was a term used to troll journalists who complained about losing jobs. Another industry that is unsustainable and is begging for state funding to keep it afloat.

Great example of the islamic banks. Uncompetitive, offer inferior product, basically a p1g in lipstick and expect us all to flock through their doors.

Who says whole sector is closing? Read the article. 85 mills are under threat of closure, the other 115 are shutting down in protest. The APTMA represents over 400 mills in total. Why aren't the other 200+ closing in protest? Maybe because their business model can survive without government handouts.

i know a ' billionaire' mill owner. he shut down his small operation in Faisalabad ( thanks to FBR taxes and harassment ) and moved to BD. his employees are bengalis now, not pakistanis ,( make any sense mr PTI )

swears never to come back

chale le mulk shabbar zaidi ,, pfffftttt

Are the other textile exporters having same problems as this group? It seems that this group wants taxpayers money to survive on.

A quarter of GDP which is just a loss making enterprise. Have fun balancing your books.

The real question should be, ARE THEY HAVING THESE PROBLEMS AS THEY MENTIONED? What are they doing about it? Strike???

Answer to all this is NO/Nothing!!

There was no strike. All mills are open and running as per routine. Their only problem right now is that they were selling product in local market and since the export was zero rates (no tax) they slipped the local invoices in that too. Now they know they will have to pay tax. The calls for strike and all are only to blackmail the government. :)

About two weeks ago the embroidery industry also called for a strike and went on a strike too, for one day!!
