All Pak team players retire after dismal performance NEW DELHI: Admitting their poor performance in the FIH World Cup, all players of the national hockey team have announced their retirement from the game here on Thursday.

Captain Zeeshan Ashraf, while talking with Geo News, said that he and his boys apologise with the nation on the team’s dismal performance in the World Cup.

He said that never in the history of Pakistan, such disappointing performance was displayed and the whole team is sad on today’s defeat. This is why all the players have decided in a meeting to quit hockey.

Zeeshan said that the players did not make this decision under any pressure but they did it only due to their poor performance.

i think they took a wise decision considering the aftermath. Half of our team was about to be sacked anyway....... remaining half of the team was inexperienced

Now they have taken retirement and may be after couple of months who knows if they wish to revoke their retirements? players like Sohail Abbas is surely gone now but the youngsters might want to play again in future. It doesn't take more than a work to revoke your retirement so we might see them coming again in future

There were times when we used to be the World Champs 4 times, and these newbies are ruining our hockey just like our cricket team but they atleast beat Zimbabwe

it is so depressing to see both India and Pakistan giving such a pathetic performace. I was so excited to be in india during the world cup and was on top of world when India beat Pakistan 4-1. Therafter it was dooms day for India and unfortunately Pakistan also did not bounce back apart from the heroics against Spain...I did not followed Pakistan matches that much but the way Indians defended their goal post one can easily see huge gaps and as huge as one can easily drive a plane through them....

I think the issue that india and Pakistan teams are facing is somewhat same

- Lack of fitness
- Lack of Pace
- Lack of Game Plan
- More emphasis on heroics than a team game
- Last but not the least - Long passes vs small passes is definitely taking its toll


As far as resignation is concerned its all eye-wash. No one will let the whole international team to go for good...However both the teams need to start working hard on their games and more importantly team work than individual heroics or else we(both india and Pak) won't even come last....

Most talented kids are never given a chance as no one can makes a phone call for them.
Every sports in Pakistan is heavily influenced by people who know someone and have no talent.

This is not the case anymore though. Most of these guys play in international leagues and PHF also pay them decent salaries.

Partial blame is also on the people of Pakistan for not giving the right attention to our national game.

Lets bring in youngsters.
