Here is the problem, because Indian economy is big so Indian currency then Chinese is even bigger economy does it mean we should have Asian currency of yuan?
It will be even better for region even for India as you rupee depreciated more than 20% last year so accepting Chinese yuan will make it stable against US $

good point, but union have common characteristics. apart from the critical cultural characteristics, most south asians nations have similar per capita income and living standards, while china is 4 time higher. if china were to from a union with south asian nations it currency value will dilute, which may not be agreeable to china.

Compare exchange rate of all above country's currency per dollar with your rupee.

At Kathmandu airport. The guard who "attempted" to ask me for bribe was an Indian from bihar. He was part of the group manning the x-ray machine, which is how he saw the knives in my bag.

Implications would be fantastic globally, I wish more of this can be done. There are laundry list of benefits, but actual global rupee trading would happen, which would benefit Indian's and overseas business man...

We can become the SAARC currency if we can persuade others to join in and accept our currency .

Nepalese currency is also accepted in neighboring town along Indian boarder. Now according to your logic Nepali currency is freely accepted in India right?

I am telling you my experiences of Nepal. I keep visiting Krishnanagar across Barhni on Indian side, Lumbini, Butwal, Chitwan, Pokhra, Kathmandu and the picnic spots near the indian border. So far we have never gone to a bank to exchange. Everyone accepts IC but often we were given changes in NC that we utilize. At times we are left with lots of NC and we carry it home to use it next time. I still have with me about 2k NC in loose notes. Now someone said 500 and 1000 IC notes are not accepted and I recall many people (mostly gurkhas) refusing 500 rs note because they doubt it could be fake. No one told me its illegal.

I feel very much at home in Nepal but I miss my childhood days when we crossed the border to buy foreign goods as they were not available on Indian side. We loved sipping coca cola when it was banned in India. Now those markets wear a deserted look and it feels like any market in India.
