So what is the most important locally designed and built military item that Algeria has made...I am very curious to know.

Warships, Personnel armored carriers, combat vehicles 4x4, ammunitions, drones, all types of fire arms, Manpads, Anti-tanks and corvettes plus They have several other projects lined-up which is not finished yet

Are these Algerian designed or just a licensed production of other countries products... I am interested mainly on LOcally designed and locally produced...The only countries that I know in middle east make locally designed and locally build military itmes are Iran, Turkey, Pakistan and to some degree Egypt...I was not aware of Algeria..

Algeria is not in the middle east tho. Yes they produce locally and in some projects they do joint ventures

Unhealthy reliance on Russian hardware.

So far they are not complaining...

They have been a major russian tech purchaser and Russia even sold them stealth fighters but Algeria is not relied on Russian hardware since time is passing. Interestingly Algeria is now a Turkish client and weapon purchaser. They can diversify getting the more important things from turkey and modernizing further and the smaller things from Russia. As it stands now they are ranked high in the fire power index and robustly armed

Why does Algeria need to spend a lot on military? perhaps as a reward for having crushed the democratically elected FIS and then keeping the Bouteflika cu*t in power.

Same story like everywhere else in Muslim countries with a strong military.

The FIS and all its helper was crushed in less than 2 years..Just imagine all the ones Syrians facing with Russia on its knees..and on top of that a quarantine added to an embargo...Noby faced the Muslim fondamentalism as Algeria did, and she managed to brake their back in a very short time...That’s what Algeria’s sons and daughters are made of...
Algeria is arming itself against NATO...We are fearlessly indépendant and we aim to stay that way .

They need to diversify their procurement ... A very good powerful military in North Africa

Well every body make copies of somebody else make..None the countries you cited have a proper military industry based on your definition, but they do and if you just take the example of Turkey or Iran , they have a very robust military industry. Algeria is catching up at very fast pace.

Morocco was never a threat to Algeria and Algeria is not arming itself because Morocco..She has bigger and stronger foes than her waiters neighbor...Morocco has a pesky behavior...no traction whatsoever, you just have to learn to live with a mosquito ....and I am not talking about its citizenry I am pointing the monarchy..who consider Moroccans as subjects...just as the Saud see their citizenry.

It is not sarcasm, it is the real ennemi that Algeria is preparing to face one of these days..It isn’t Morocco and it was never Morocco...The ANP doesn’t need to arm herself to that magnitude to face Morocco who can’t even defeat the Polisario as it is..

For Morocco your statement has some truth to it , it’s for parity and to give themselves an offensive capability for their colonialist dream to repossess lands they claim to be Moroccan . Their desire to repossess them has not led up since they acquire there autonomy from France..Swath of lands Algeria, to Mali via Mauritania all the way to Senegal are claimed as theirs since the times of times. There is no historical facts to their claims.
A Moroccan parity to Algeria is just a far fledged dream and hard to attain with the actual conditions be it economical, political or otherwise. The Moroccan armed forces are still not efficient and equipped enough to face Algeria.

I honestly don't think it's a far fatched dream for parity they are almost there on parity except few places where Algeria has the edge. It's just that they put in the work to keep parity going for the last 3 decades. They are by no means a walk over and on paper they are competant armed in land forces, tanks, troop carriers, airforce, navy, defense air systems. Algeria has advantage in airforce and navy due to their numerial submarines + land force operability. I am by no means saying Morocco is superior and far from the truth since Alergia is the strongest military in the magreeb and stronger then Egypt. If Morocco had the operability projections could equal Egypt.

Morocco is also strategically difficult to invade due to the atlas mountains coming to their aid and defensive shade it is build in such ways that the atlas mountains don't provide entry points except where the Moroccans can field over numbering forces as defensive platform
