As reported by Chinese and Algerian web resources, Algeria bought game 155-mm/45 Chinese self-propelled howitzers PLZ45. Some time ago there were pictures of these games loading ACS on a transport ship in the PRC, and January 14, 2014 Algerian Web resource ForcesDZ. Algerian, Tunisian and Maghreb Armies Reference published footage on transport trailers arrived in Algeria on the highway PLZ45 Blida.

155-mm/45 PLZ45 propelled howitzer was developed and manufactured by the Harbin Harbin 1st Machinery Group Corporation Limited (plant number 674), which is part of the Chinese Corporation China North Industries Group Corporation (CNGC, she's NORINCO Group). This uses a modified ACS WZ321 tracked chassis design of the same enterprise, and rocker part based 155-mm/45 towed gun-howitzer 89 (PLL01) produced by Shanxi Northern Machine-Building Company (plant number 247, Taiyuan).

PLZ45 system was developed in the 1990s, initially as a purely export, and was delivered to Kuwait (51 units in 2001-2003) and Saudi Arabia (54 units in 2008-2009). In addition, a small amount PLZ45 were delivered in the first half of the 2000s, the troops of the PLA Beijing Military District. Together with ACS PLZ45 also used armored munitions carrier PCZ45, manufactured on the same modified crawler WZ321.

It should be noted that, according to several reports, Algeria bought earlier in the PRC and party 155-mm/45 towed gun-howitzers PLL01.

Algeria acquires Chinese self-propelled howitzers

Algeria has received a batch of PLZ-45 or Type 88 155mm self-propelled howitzers designed by the China North Industries Corporation, reports the Moscow-based Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies on Jan. 20.

Photos on the Algerian military website ForcesDZ show the PLZ-45s in transport on a highway in Blida, located about 45 kilometers southwest of Algiers, the nation's capital, on Jan. 14. It is claimed that the self-propelled howitzers were on their way to a base of the People's National Army of Algeria.

The PLZ-45 is equipped with a 155mm, 45-calibre main gun, with a semi-automatic loader and an electrically controlled and hydraulically operated rammer. Designed by the Harbin First Machinery Group Corporation, part of the China North Industries Corporation, the PLZ-45 has already been exported to various nations including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Some military analysts said that the Chinese 155mm self-propelled howitzers seen in Algeria may in fact be PLZ-52s. While both vehicles use the same chassis, the PLZ-52 is equipped with a 155mm 52-caliber barrel to increase the range of fire, the analyst said.
