Did Alexander defeated the King Porus ?
Do we possess any documents on it other than those from Greeks ?

For the first question, yes.

Any other documents were most likely burned during Julius Caesars time when he burned down the library of Alexandria or destroyed during the library of Alexandria's pillaging during the Byzantine empire.

So you are going to have to go off greek documents.

King Porus gave Alexander all he could handle and then some and no he did not defeat Sikander.......sometimes I find it astonishing when sons of the Ganges claim ownership of Porus, what the hell have southerners got to do with him , I always wonder, completely flabbergasted.Kudos Pandit kid

Porus belonged to my city/region and everything thats affiliated with him is the heritage of my region and my region alone. How does it matter if outsider living 2000 kilometres away lay a claim on his legacy

There are quite a few sites still assossiated with King Porus and Alexander if you come to visit the banks of Jhelum and Chenab. The legacy says that he gave really tough time to Alexander but was simply outnumbered, Alexander arrested him and asked him what punishment he would like him to confer upon him and Porus replied with utmost bravery that whatever Punishment a King confers to the King who lost in a battlefield (death)...

And he got so impressed that Alexandar decided to restore his kingdom under his leadership. The famous story that even kids knows from the region. The bottom line is, Alexander had won the battle but didn't rule on the kingdom of Porus

Porus or Poros was a king of the Pauravas whose territory in Ancient India spanned the region between the Hydaspes (Jhelum) and Acesines (Chenab) rivers in what is now the Punjab.

Rig Vedic Tribe . When did Pakistani taking their Pagan History seriously :sarcastic:

Indian's again licking Pakistani testicles as usual - the Swamp Ganga's have to reach out to Pakistan region to gain any history. Or else it is composed of naked Dalits, chasing monkeys, while grabbing bananas.

Your too harsh lol :D

I have read volumes of history of this region. I could go into very fine detail but long time ago I realized it was waste of time. So since then I just sum it up in nice bite sized capsules.

You see in ancient times Ganga Valley was just jungle, naked Aboriginial types ( the untouchables are their undiluted residuals) running around naked with their white teeth and even whiter eye pupils. The Indus region was distinct, like it is today. It was and still is dry and extension of the Western Asia dry zone. The population was small and concentrated along the river banks as land further away turned into semi-arid desert. In the extreme north along the present day GT road axis (Peshawar-Taxila-Rawalpindi-Jhelum-Sialkot-Lahore) there was a relative wet zone which provided reasonanle agriculture. along this small kingdoms too root - one of the being Porus.

Alexander in all his time in South Asia never went into what is now India. Never. He stayed within the Indus region of present day Pakistan. Look at this map below of Alexander's route and area of conquest.

Do you see his route going into India? Not at all. Now you are left with the fact that his route and the earth he walked over is as above. What name you give it is semantics. If my father's name is Mohammed Ali I can't go around start imaging I have Ali the Boxer's pedigree. To claim otherwise is delusional.

Ask these people where are they from? Bihar, Orrisa, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat or whatever. Those places are 1,000 miles away from these location so how in god's name can these Swamp Gangas even think they had something to do with the battle with Alexander. Just because of the name 'India'. I already clarfied that with the analogy of Mohammed Ali the boxer.

But these Swamp Ganga's are desperate for some pedigree other than jumping off trees collecting bananas so they make a grab for some legacy. They can't go for Pyramids. Instead they go for the closest to them. Indus Valley. Thus my referance to licking Pakistan';s balls..

name was coined
Retard substance matters not the name. According to your logic Mohmmed Ali never existed before he coined the name Mohhamed Ali for himself at age 21. Indian Republic only was born in 1947 Mr Swamp. Shoo, go worship your holy Ganges.

Anyway here is extract from the District Jhelum Government website. Interesting is the district produces lot of soldiers even today and they are proud of their past.

Jhelum History
Jhelum

Jhelum is near the site of the famous Battle of the Hydaspes between the armies of Alexander the Great and Raja Porus. This battle took place a few miles downstream from the city centre, along the river banks. The city was founded to commemorate the death of Alexander's horse, Bucephalus, and was originally called Bucephala. Nearby there is also the historic 16th century Rohtas Fort, another historic fort since Sikh era located at the backside of main bus stand near Railway Phatak Jhelum City now being used as stores under Railway Authorities and also Tilla Jogian; a centuries-long history of the area.
Early history
The history of the district dates back to the semi-mythical period of the Mahabharata. Hindu tradition represents the Salt Range as the refuge of the five Pandava brethren during the period of their exile, and every salient point in its scenery is connected with some legend of the national heroes. Modern research has fixed the site of the conflict between Alexander and Porus as within Jhelum district, though the exact spot at which the Macedonian king effected the passage of the Jhelum (or Hydespes) has been hotly disputed. and sharoz ahmed named the city jhelum he live in jhelum cannt in westcolony
Greek period
Ancient graveyard of Alexander's period.Alexander moved from Taxila of Raja Ambhi, whom he subdued without fight, to Kalar Kahar. From there he moved over the Salt Range, turning left, along the western bank of River Jhelum, which he called Hydaspes. Opposite him on the other bank was a Raja Porus. They fought Alexander's biggest Indian battle which Alexander won, achieving a masterly surprise against the valiant Rajput. Before moving further, along the river Alexander established a village on west bank of the River and ordered construction of 2000 boats. Greek Admiral Nearches was to arrange wood from nearby higher hills which would be floated down the River and hauled up at this point. He called this village as Boucephila (present-day Jhelum City). The Jhelum River passes vying with the residential areas of the city.
The mosque inside the river is a famous landmark most commuters on the Grand Trunk Road even today. Alexander's Naval Chief was assigned the task of boats building on a very large scale. Therefore, the craftsmen on a large scale were gathered, hence the modern colonies in the city were named as Machine Mohallahs (Number 1, 2 and 3), because of saw mills. Jhelum became timber market for whole of Punjab over the millenniums. It was only after construction of Mangla Dam that log wood does not float down the river and the city has lost this privilege. There is a plywood factory also, which is flourishing. Greeks left marks of their chivalry and martial spirit which mixed up well with the races and clans dwelling in the area.

.
But we did give you Jinnah and Iqbal. Sharifs and Bhutto's. All coming from what is current Indian land.
Most of these are from Baniya caste though might had claimed warrior castes. Iqbal might be from Brahmin ancestry but rest were Hindu baniyas though might claim Arab warrior ancestry. Lots of Indianess has flown into Pakistan, not just Indus. People on both sides have similarities. Like Jinnah and Modi might be much more similar genetically then Jinnah and you. You might be more Arab and Turkish and pashtun.

Iqbal--- Born in Sialkot
Jinnah---- born in Karachi.

Both are in present day Pakistan. Don't lie. The rest I don't care for.

.
Anyway just as a reminder again for you Swamp Ganga's let me reiterate. Hydaspes is River Jhelum. The site of the battle was near Jhelum. Jhelum is a district in Pakistan. So you want to lick the legacy of the people of Jhelum. Go ahead. I am sure they will be enamoured.

Here is the reminder of where Alexander fought and who fought him. Definitely nothing to do with the present, repeat present Indian Republic.

Alexander Monument, Pakistan.

*With these facts recorded - you may please continue with the licking the brave people of Jhelum District, Pakistan. At least the Greeks know their history. That monument was partly funded by Greek government.
