Russians do seem to be taking India for a ride. Extreme caution is required before committing significant capital for acquiring these jets.
Better option would be to induct more Rafales and go all out in developing Tejas which has turned out to be a humiliating experience for us.
If Tejas doesn't work out then its advisable to shelf the AMCA dream and hitch our ride to Americans. In this case we can induct more Rafales to carry IAF through and wait for F-35 platform to fully mature and next tranches to come out.
My dream wishlist would be:
6 Squadrons of Rafales
20 squadrons of SU 30-MKI
10 Squadrons of F-35s
Unfortunately this is totally unachievable, due to budgetary constraints.
