Al Waleed Bin Talal buys shares of Twitter worth USD 300 million and says that it is Deal of the year 2012, gift for every arab.

.
and yet he will have no say on how the website is being used....

.
Thats the Saudi way of putting a revolution down..as I can see..we will buy you..haha!

.
He is basically IDIOT...............with this money he can' build so many forums or social website of high quality............. and rest of the money he can spend on advertisements for the popularity of those websites he will launch................they have money but don't have brain......he spent money but he will still not be able to do anything with the basic layout or changes in website.

Agreed. And don't forget that it says he has bought shares in Twitter, not the whole website, even if he has bought 95% of the share still it's not the whole website.

Just a case of a rich guy trying to get richer. Why is everyone so critical that he "Should have done more" or whatever. His money and he is free to do with it as he like. He took the least risky path Google+ punked because it tried to compete with Facebook and many such examples are here.

I don't think it works that way...

Who in their right mind would spend hundreds of millions "building web forums"? These forums don't work like that, you don't need $$$ to start one, there's freely available server-side tools that are used.

No-one has EVER considered forums as an investment source. And this guy isn't investing in twitter to "change it's layout", so many people are pointing out that he can't even do that. People invest in these things to gain a return on their investment, and twitter is certainly an interesting investment, given how unique and popular it is.

If you look at this guy's past record, he has used his $$$ to get numerous top universities in the west to open Islamic departments and colleges where western minds try to *look into* Islam and understand that it really isn't a religion of terrorists. From what I know(and I may not know very much), this Prince has done some good with his $$$. Can't hate him for not "investing in forums" and paying you to waste time on defence.pk.

He wears khaleeji clothing and hen has al and bin in his name thus he is the devil. It is no use arguing with these people. I tried for a long time but it's no use.

Though i can be very critical of some Saudis spending at times i don't see why this guy shouldn't be allowed to invest in something that's up and coming? Twitter is obviously on the rise, why not make some more money out of it, i know i would if i had that money, lol.

i read that he was the nephew of the king... he is also the guy that bought the A380 as a private jet.

shouldn't the king keep them disciplined and not like this. where they have freedom to spend money here and there!

no offense but i can kind of understand some of the hate against the king right now.

You seem confused, let me clear things up for you by asking you two questions.

1) Where did he get the millions in order to invest and grow richer? (hint: rich daddy synderome)

2) How will he make money on his investment by investing in a company that barely makes anything?

Answer these questions and you will understand the confusion. This is no different than Kim Jung Ill's obsession with luxury while his citizens were dying of hunger. In this case, Saudi oil is funding the non-sensical spending habits of a few in the upper echelons of an archaic absolute monarchy. This is not his money, this is Saudi many being wasted.

This is a reply to both you and Abii. Not a single penny of the country's treasury now goes to the pockets of princes. This may have been the case in the past but it is not the case now not since 2006 when King Abdullah almost had a coup for stopping the flow of cash into Prince's pockets.

1) His father has been part of the "Free Princes Group" which is a group of princes calling for turning Saudi Arabia into a Democratic Liberal country. His part of the family is not even liked by the other part of the family. Second his money is his own not the people's. not since some years ago.

2)Twitter barely makes anything?? It seems you are the one who is confused here buddy.

i understnad, but dont you feel a bit angry that someone that close to the king has so much money and freedom?

he buys anything he likes... A380 private jet! even the president of USA dont have it.

and now twitter? why isn't the king putting a stop to this... where does he get all that money from. why is he wasting those moneys on unimportant thing for the Saudi citizen?

this is normal questions we ask here in Norway where politicians try to get more money on themselfs and use money because their *** said so!

10 years ago a prince would come take your land evict you from your house and throw on your street and there was nothing you could do but say "Thank you for choosing my land your majesty" because if you said anything else this prince would make sure you are never heard of ever again. But that was before King Abdullah came and made a stop to all of this. The princes agreed to stop their plundering and keep the money they already took gave some lands back and to us it was a fair deal.

King Abdullah is not loved by all Saudis for nothing.
