Al-Shibl 1 and 2 The Saudi Lion Cub

The Al-Shibl 1 kinda reminds me of Indian Mahindra Marksman used by Indian Police.

In the beginning i also thought the same but the specs are a huge difference.

though i dont think it provides better protection then the HUMVEE as the O/P claimis.
this vehicle tops as a security vehicle, SA has many other options for war front.

Desert Fox:

Al-Ghateesh and Al-Masmak do not hold similar roles. Al-Ghateesh is not even used in Saudi Arabia it was simply a Yemeni government requirement that one of our companies built for it. They wanted a mine resistant cheap as possible APC.

On the other hand Al-Masmak is an MRAP built on NATO standards for the Saudi armed forces. So no the both are not the same.

Al-Naif is built for the police as a well protected vehicle against small fire. Al-Shibl is built for the armed forces on NATO standards and for specific requirements that the HUMVEE couldn't meet.

Saudi Arabia has enough resources to get high-tech and decades of researched and proven platforms and built upon them further. In tanks, German Leopard2, in Jets, may be EF2000 with TOT and 100s of goodies which are on the top of the list. But it is less than satisfactory to see Saudi Arabia still acquiring such tech externally instead of producing it locally. In wars, no ally would count as reliable as much you can count on your own muscles.
