Akash to Provide SAM cover for Lohegaon base of the Indian Air Force (IAF)

Does project a sense of confidence in the system, however, do we know that this system indeed is not shoved down IAF's throat.

Even if it is, this is the only way to develop our own capabilities. Fully support the move! :)

Last know test was partial success. But the problem was with launcher and not missile. Launcher problem was solved and missile worked. So not going to be a problem. Earlier tests were mixed results but higher on positive sides. And we don't think IAF will take anything that isn't coming near to their desires. We are seeing LCA M1 , aren't we ???

Well there was conflicting news, one cannot be sure as to what reasons were there. I agree that IAF puts the bar high, however i would like to believe that this was the case for the Akash.. my point being even if it is not, this is the only way to develop these capabilities. :)

Yup you are right. But IAF show green flag to Akash long back. The partial success test was for IA. IAFs order for these babies has long been in place. So no worries

Yes and we heard about the production hiccups, Indian defence industry is still talking baby steps. The only solution is to induct more Indian content and outsource to private Indian firms.

India currently has produced around 310 Akash SAM missiles, majority of which are on China border.

The total order is for like 3,000 missiles to replace all SA-6 Gainful and SA-9 Gaskin missiles in Indian inventory.

It is quite a site to see a full batch of Akash SAM System deployed on tracked, wheeled and surface fitted on different platforms maneuvering around linked to each other. Then again why would you be so excited, or what do you have to even present any platform to beat this system.???.. at present nothing is at your disposal so your offtopic 2 cents are just what they appear to be...:P

Mr IBRIS, i was just being nice abt a thread abt yr country's military information in a PAKISTANI MILITARY FORUM LOL but it seems yr too arrogant to b even nice with:lol:, Sorry my bad.

Akash main capability remains in its ability to destroy low flying maneuvering targets, specially cruise missiles. 3000 mk-1 are on order.

Akash Mk-2 could have enhanced range of 40-45 km. And maybe an improved
Rajendra PESA radar.
