ISLAMABAD: Air Marshal Sohail Aman has been appointed as the Chief of Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif moved a summary to the President on Wednesday.

Air Marshal Sohail Aman will assume command on Thursday after Air Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt's tenure expires.

Air Marshal Sohail Aman is a graduate of the Combat Commanders’ School, Air War College and Kings College (London). He has also served as air officer commanding of a regional air command and Deputy Chief of Air Staff (training) at the Air Headquarters in Islamabad.
He is a recipient of the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).

My choice was sohail gul khan but as usual strange decisions are made. Anyway he is a fighter pilot and we wish him all the best for the next 3 years.

What happened to M Salman appointment as PAF Chief previously?. The new chief has a diverse experience though

In an apparent upset, the outgoing Chief Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt supported a last minute bid to recommend Air Marshal Sohail Aman over Air Marshal Sohail Gul as his successor. In the ultimate cliff hanger, and decision pending till last moment, whispers, speculations, and discussions went on till last moment in Sector E9, home of the Airforce HQ, and across Pakistan in PAF and related circles. It is widely rumoured that Air Marshal Aman received the biggest support from the Army and his own Cheif, recognising his potential as a commander who leads from the front.

Welcome to the Air Command Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, you truly deserve it. A brilliant fighter pilot, strategist, honest, decent, moral, and upfront man, Air Chief Marshal Aman put fears in the knees of the weak and corrupt. His positive demeanour and cordial attitude wins hearts, and his tough stance puts most unreasonable people in line. He is not known to compromise on principals, and is one of the best PAF has produced in the tradition of Air Marshal Nur Khan and all flying legends of the past.

Air Chief Marshal Butt's legacy will be remembered as a quiet man and soldier, who always protected PAF interests, during service and on his way out. PAF Officers, and this nation, salutes you for your service.

Air Marshal Sohail Gul Khan, now the outgoing Vice Chief of Staff, was hopeful till last moment. While he was no less qualified, his flamboyant style, overt hob-knobbing with certain business figures, special liking for all things Turkish, and public flaunting of vices got to him. A likeable handsome man with a sharp IQ of a true fighter pilot, Air Marshal Gul would have served PAF well. However, Turkish companies like Havelsan, Aselsan, Metaksan, TAI, and Rocketsan are in mourning.

Air Marshal Jamshed, also known as Jimmy Boom Boom, was the other candidate, currently presiding as Deputy Chief of Air Staff - Support. During his tenure as DCAS-S, he has pulled all kinds of damaging antics to serve his personal, egotistic, and nepotistic interests. He only insulted himself and his legacy by constantly acting like a buffoon on the prestigious position he held. While he was also hopeful to become Air Chief (go figure), he didn't stand a chance in the big boys league. He should be thankful to his spouse' prayers for becoming even an Air Marshal. Officers across PAF are offering special prayers for the retirement of this uncouth, vile, myopic, and egotistic man, who would have destroyed PAF had he become Chief. Hopefully, the support branches of PAF will recover form the wrong direction Jimmy Boom Bust put them on.
