ISLAMABAD, Jul 2 (APP):Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan Monday called on Caretaker Federal Minister for Defence, Lt General (Retd) Naeem Khalid Lodhi here at Ministry of Defence.
During the meeting, the Air Chief apprised the Minister about the professional excellence and operational preparedness of Pakistan Air Force.
Current strategic environment and security challenges also came under discussion. The Defence Minister appreciated the level of motivation among PAF’s personnel.

So the new Air Chief is now fully cognisant of PAF's needs and is on the go for some more stuff.

Meeting with defence minister always are important they bring some thing to the inventory.

That is a very angry post! I dont think it is reflective of the state PAF is in. We have invested ourselves fully with Block 3. I think the induction starts in 2019 and we will start our relook at our condition and needs around that time. If the need is urgent we will induct something othewise it will be hatches down and all hands on deck for project Azm. In the interim especially in case of any delays in Azm, we have to think at what we need to buy. Iam afraid in the interim all that we will get are either hand me down 16s of uncle Sam becomes benevolent again or failing that and the need being dire we may go for the J20/31 in small number slowly building upto 2 squadrons.

the conditions attached with f-16s are very strict. they dont even know how it will perform in a war. wonder what paf was thinking while it bought this jet. a great jet but too much sanction prone that can make it useless at any given moment. and they were going for 18 more. thanks to US which made the conditions tough. pak should have gone for J10. not a combat proven jet and may not be as good as the f-16 but still completely at our own disposal. project azm is nothing but a truck k batti we are following. its good to have a research project which may make the country self sufficient one day but its years away to become a reality. it seems it will follow the indian tejas project. jft is the only option left but it is no match to the su30 and rafale.

I have responded to this line of thought many times before. You are intelligent enough so I will just say that the 16s are more important from the perspective of the tech they bring in and we get access to than their function. The other aspect was the MLU which was what we were really after and so have done.
J10 is still problematic from the engine point of view. AL31 was not cleared for PAF and WS10 is still not mature. Now that the JFT is not a baby anymore PAF thinks there is no benefit in getting j10 as the capabilities are comparable. J10 is not as upgradable as JFT which is something coming out of PAF and amazes me as well so dont ask me why.
France or USSR are almost as reliable as are the US when it comes to us. You have not understood how the US arms trade works to protect its turf and we have plenty of examples of the french buckling under.
There are more things that can be said but the gist of your post has been responded to. I dont want to open up on an open board so suffice to say you will fill in the gaps.

Trouble with you and all us Pakistanis is that we lack future thinking and want toys yesterday.

Right now our enemy is fully aware of our capabilities else he would be sitting in Lahore gymkhana. Notice no more million men on the border. Additionally, whatever you say, America is also aware and that's precisely why it hasn't attacked.
Regarding 4.5 /5th gen....well project AZM is away and we just have to wait. These guys know better than us and have defended paksitan against heavy odds. After all they go up against the enemy not you and I and if they cannot compete they would be crying for new stuff.
Focus now is Jf17 block 3 followed by AZM. I do not think we will get new toys from external sources anytime soon and rightfully so. We should move well away from American hardware

we dont have 8-10 billion dollars for 36 jets..we simply dont..thank pakistani people for electing PPPP and PML N for that even knowing what they did in 1990s..this bonanza is bigger than a IMF bail out package

especially the urban educated areas of sindh and punjab
