That is up to them. I believe those countries need to find their own identity. Even if they were shouting to all the four winds that they are turks, if they cannot manage to raise their country up to e.g. a western country's standard (just an example) then they can't amount to do anything and will always be at the mercy of those who're stronger or has other plans like Russia.

I think if we invest and help raise the quality of that country, then they will also get to be in touch with their roots in time.

If the citizens consider themselves turks, then we're moving in the right direction. it may take 20 or 100 years, but what's important is those steps.

I hope the Turkish goverment starts a program to resettle the Ahiska Turks back in Ardahan. Russia has a similair program where they offer Russians outside the motherland to return so it could counter the demographic crisis.

The region of Artvin,Ardahan and Kars were historically parts of the Ahiska Atabek.
(While of course Armenians were the majority in Kars pre-WW1)

Meskhetian Turks are being called "Turks" in Azerbaidjan!
Miskhetian or Ahiska names created by Russians.
They were citizens of Ottoman Empire, They have a Anatolian culture, They are real Anatolian Turks.
Azerbaidjan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Krygizia different countries, different cultures, different historical contacts.

The name Meskhetian is invented by Russians that is true.
But Ahiska is not invented since we were in these regions long before the Ottomans were even a thing.

Because Ahiska is ours.
Georgia settled us in those regions long before the Ottomans conquered it in 1579.
While today we arent (in language) that different to Anatolian Turks we still have an own history and the regions of Kars/Ardahan/Artvin and the Georgian region of Samstkhe(Ahiska) are still our native homeplaces.
Because of that people of the region of Ardahan/Artvin/Kars still call themselves Ahiska and not just simply Turk.

My grandparents had left their houses, fields and everything in Romania (today Bulgaria),Bulgaria enforced them immigrate to Turkey in 1950.
Their lands also were Ottomans, They were citizensof Ottoman Empire.
But They never charged Turkey.They didnt complain about They lost everything, they were poor.

Difference is that we got deported (half of us died).
We still cant get back into Georgia and for a long time nobody cared what happened to us even going so far that the US helped many of us escape from Russia.
And for a long time most of us couldnt even get to Turkey (eventhough Kars/Ardahan/Artvin are also part of hour home)
And to this day nobody apologised for what happened to us.

Were they Krim Tatar origin or Balkan Ottomans ? My grandmas grandma had to leave West Thrace in Balkan War , she walked with her six months young baby to Edirne. Her husband died in the clashes and was Ottoman soldier.

That doesnt matter just look what Germany did with the German Russians.
They almost took ALL of them to Germany without any problems and gave them German passports.

Dont worry everybody can live in Turkey. Goverment gives immigration permit everbody who insult and against Turkish Nation even thought terorists have citizenship of Turkey.
Its not big problem.
Every foreigner easly can take permit for one year.
