What's new

Ahiska/Meskhetian Turks’ diaspora, sense of belonging, and identity

There were a huge influx of Kypchaks into Georgia, so that some Ahiska people have Kypchak ancestry is a certain thing. But the majority? I don't know.

Also certain language features is often given as an argument, and I can't say if I agree with that sentiment.
What should also be noted is that the regions of Kars and Ardahan where mostly settled by Armenians but the city of Ahiska and Ahilkelek were of mostly Ahiska Turkish origin.
It makes no sense that the Ottomans would settle or convert people only in this region but leave out stategic points like Kars.

. . . . .
@Ahiska

TRT made a serial named "Büyük Sürgün Kafkasya". Series are telling to story of the Ahıska Türks...now, Turkish people will have knowledge about the Ahıska Turks. :)

At least downing the Russian jet, gave way to a good thing. :)

I saw this show and i appreciate the interest it generates.
But let me tell you this show has nothing to do with us Ahiska.
The costumes are not Ahiska costumes, the music is wrong, the whole series was filmed in Macedonia and not in Ahiska.
It also tries to make the Russians more of a villian that they really were.
And it doesnt try to be historically correct at all (makes it look like we got deported because a Russian commander wants a girl ?????????????)
And in the end the most Ahiska were in the war when we got deported.

:) Muhteşem Yüzyıl also had flaws...the important thing is Turkish people knew absolutely nothing about the Ahıska Turks.
^^^Guy says "South Africa"

Now that's gonna change.

I hope so but most probably still wont care.........
But the problem is that this show makes us look like that we dont have any identity at all.
Our ancestors were orthodox and lived in those regions long before the Ottomans conquered it.
We are proud Turks (and most are Sunni today) but this show makes us look like people from Trabzon for some reason.

My grandmother always told me we are from Ahiska and are Kipçak Turks. I born in Europe but my father and rest of older ones born in a village of Posof district thats just 2km from Georgia border. My father and uncle has blue eyes my mother and brother green.

I really want to know our origin.
