In a first for India’s strategic deterrent programme, the DRDO will be working hard to test, operationalise and induct the Agni-IV and Agni-V in to service within the next 24 months. Never before have two missiles with a combined range in excess of 10,000 km been slated for entry into service together with the country’s Strategic Forces Command. The SFC’s land-based deterrent currently includes the Agni-I, II and III, accounting for ranges between 750-3,500 km.

With the entry of the Agni-IV and V, India will have missiles with ranges out to 7,000 km, covering the country’s deterrence needs from a land perspective for the first time. The Agni-IV, with a range of 4,000 km has been tested twice (in 2011 and 2012), while the Agni V, with a range in excess of 7,000 km has been tested once, in April 2012. A second test of the Agni-V is expected this year. The next phase of development, which may include an extended-range Agni-V (unofficially the Agni-VI), will include manoeuvering warheads, decoy-warhead permutation configurations and MIRV.

Agni-IV: 4000km

Agni-V: in excess of 7000km :cheesy::victory:

.
good job DRDO
A second test of the Agni-V is expected this year
hope will it be tested with the actual range!

:raise:btw, any assumptions how many Agni V's can be produced annually after it gets inducted?

Even if it is tested for its full range, it will not be declared in public. Few days ago I posted Dr. Saraswat words that Agni-V is 6000+km in range. Today it is declared 7000km. I think Chinese has predicted it correctly to be of 8000km range. But how the hell they predicted it so correctly.

And at this point of time 3 Agni-V can be produced annually. It was said in 2012 that after induction they will raise the production level to 10 missiles per annum.

.
I doubt agni v range. Probably 6000km is realistic but 7000km unlikely.

.
I have heard that after inducting Agni-4, they gonna replace Agni-2s with them. Isn't it?

It depends on the payload. More the payload, less the range and vice versa.

7000 km is either a typo or just for making confusion

Agni-IV will be deployed for use only against China.

I am looking forward for Agni-IV induction , as it can be produced in Agni-II's production facility even though in 2011 it was announced to setup a new production facility for Agni-IV which means over 24 missiles can be produced annually if required.

Dude Agni -III has a range of 5000+km with 1200kg payload. And it was also announced sometime between 2007-2009 that DRDO has developed and patented technology which can increase the range of its missile by 40%.

And moreover Agni-V is a new missile with advanced technology and components. Why would DRDO produced two missiles with same range. If you go by logic, Agni -IV with 17 ton weight can carry 1000kg payload to distance of 4000km. So Agni-V unlike Agni-III, built on Agni-IV technology with 50 ton weight should be able to carry 1200kg-1500kg payload to distance of 8000km.

One DRDO official (probably Chander) has hinted about land version of K-4

It makes sense, as it K-4 will be 10-12 meter in length around 15 tons in weight(my guess); automatically it will have high road mobility compared to A-4 and A-5

Probably DRDO will replace A-2 with K-4 LV

Still I don't think A 5's range (max) is 7000 km; maybe 6000 km

Agni 6 may have 8,000 km max range

.
Well too early to induct as they have tested it only once.... May be they plan to test it 4 or 5 times in coming year..... Any update on next test of A5 or A4?

i think just 2-3 missiles per year.

A5 is MRBM, its range is 5000Kms .. Case closed.. No more speculation or misinformation..
