Agni-5 to fly halfway to Antarctica

Why do they have to announce such things and cause half the Pacific to lose its sleep for no reasons? Can't they just do it in secret and once completed, announce?

Err...because a missile crossing national borders will be tracked by foreign nations and could be falsely identified as an attack from India. It's protocol, you need to inform everybody in the neighboring regions. Even the mighty United States has to give Russia a heads up before testing it's ICBMs.

Ok guys- he meant to say that- Hope indian missile test fails- and may it explode in the air- so indians can have diwali fireworks for free- and he said if the missile test fails- he will distribute sweets- and he also said that- all you people commenting on his english- please be on topic-

i am not sure- it was talked about before- but do we inform each other in advance- or just say- oops i fired a missile and it was a test?-

In advance; India has a verifiable missile program where details are publicly shared and posted by the concerned department itself.Every country in the regional vicinity of the missile's trajectory will have to be notified about the launch as well.India and Pakistan already have a standing agreement on the same;

India, Pakistan to notify missile tests - Economic Times

It's a rare occurrence anyway since most of missiles tested in our region aren't long range and fall back within national territories itself.

Its a great progress but it will definitely raise eyes in international community, i think this kind of test should be accompanied by some other controversial test like ASAT so that whatever outcry will happen should happen all at once.

The Antarctic Treaty and related agreements, collectively called the Antarctic Treaty System or ATS, regulate international relations with respect to Antarctica, Earth's only continent without a native human population. For the purposes of the treaty system, Antarctica is defined as all of the land and ice shelves south of 60°S latitude. The treaty, entering into force in 1961 and currently has 48 signatory nations, sets aside Antarctica as a scientific preserve, establishes freedom of scientific investigation and bans military activity on that continent. The treaty was the first arms control agreement established during the Cold War. The Antarctic Treaty Secretariat headquarters have been located in Buenos Aires, Argentina, since September 2004

Agni-5 to fly halfway to Antarctica

The Agni-5 missile will travel halfway to Antarctica. The missile’s designers are certain (about the range) but we will demonstrate it for the users,” says Avinash Chander, chief controller for missiles and strategic systems at DRDO.

As director of the Hyderabad-based Advanced Systems Laboratory, he oversaw much of Agni-5’s development. Talking exclusively to Business Standard, he describes how the three-stage, 50-tonne, 17.5-metre high missile will be powered off the Wheeler Island launch pad by its giant first stage; within minutes, it will be in space, powered by a new, all-composite second stage. After heading southwards for 2,000 km, will cross the equator. Then, it will hurtle through space for another 3,000 km or so, re-entering the atmosphere over the Tropic of Capricorn and splashing down at the target somewhere between the southern tip of Africa and Australia.

Point of 5000 Km from wheeler islands lies on 22.20 degree latitude (2.5 degree to Tropic of Capricorn) far away from southern tips of Africa and Australia.

Indian warmonger may accelerate further counter military preparations in Asia. Threat for global peace.
International community should take proper step against Indian arm race.

Hmmmmmmmmm

so whos Indias Enemis now , Penguins, the ICE berg,

Israelis are actually smart people. But you are a dumbo. You should have thought twice before flashing Israeli flag !!
Here, read slowly,
"Then, it will hurtle through space for another 3,000 km or so, re-entering the atmosphere over the Tropic of Capricorn and splashing down at the target somewhere between the southern tip of Africa and Australia."

Still didnt get it ???

let it fly first then make big sounding statements.instead of flying halfway to antarctica if it plunges in the gay of bengal or giving firework display on diwali chritmas then DRDO will truly have an egg on its face which it gets every time it make big mouth statement.

Funny, you never said anything about China's missile tests. And who is stopping you from testing your missiles? Oh, I get it. China has already tested it for you right ??

Personally, I don't see what's the point of bombing Antarctica to smithereens. It will only raise sea levels by crazy levels and drown Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. That won't be too good, would it? :P

they are international water bro..so we have to give prior warnings....

Following international practice, the DRDO will issue advisories before the test, giving out the launch window and warning shipping and air traffic to stay clear of the target area.

and its not blowing antarctics..its halfway to antarctica....
