After Statue of Unity, India to get world’s tallest Shiva Murti

Management writers Jim Collins and Jerry Porras, in their path-breaking 1994 book, Built To Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies, noted that successful leaders often set Big, Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs) to motivate their staff to greater heights of performance.
So, this is a goal? Just like you need to see god (statue) to pray to god you need to see a large statue to know you can reach your goal? :undecided:

Status are never a goal, they are symbols that inspire.

Or do you think that the Statue of Liberty is a god ?

They are not Hindus who pray to statues and that was a gift...So you are jealous of the statue of liberty?

They are christians who pray to a statue of jesus on a cross. Same difference for the casual observer.

You are free to conclude anything that will help you sleep better. You don't need my help for that.

Do christians get state funds for the cross too?

No problem with the statues we do have Hindus in Pakistan....The question is what is the obsession or need for it to be big? It is clearly not for god....why waste so much money which could have propelled your nation forward?

It is not my nation. I am not Indian.
But read my post again.
I actually do think there are other causes where the money might better be used.

But...

Like I said in my previous post:
In order for humans to progress, they need to push boundaries.
If humans would not think bigger, if they would reach for the stars, no progress would be made in, for this instance, architecture and construction.

They are building large statues.
Maybe they need to develop new building techniques.
Maybe they will be confronted with certain construction problems which did not exist before, because no one had tried to built such large statues. And now they will need to solve these problems.
And who knows?
Maybe one day Pakistan will build a large cricket stadium or university or mosque.
And they might be confronted with the same construction problems and then they will use the solutions to these problems.
Solutions which were earlier obtained by the builders of the statue.

So building these statues will provide a lot of knowledge about construction and architecture, which might be used by others.

Another reason is art.
What do you think about Florence?
How do you feel about the Renaissance?
Did you know that the Medici family played an important role in Florence and thereby the Renaissance?
Did you also know that they spent 6 times the income of Florence on funding art in Florence?
Do you think this would be possible nowadays? Of course not.
Yet, if they did not go through with it, we would not have the Renaissance.

Sometimes you need to spend money on art in order to build a legacy.
Many people might not understand it now, but in a number of years they will see these statues as a part of India.
A part of the cultural legacy.

Just like the Eiffeltower, tower of Pisa, Christ the Redeemer, Washington monument and many other statues dedicated to history, culture, persons throughout the whole world.

India is building statues and large scale infrastructure to show case our construction capabilities and skills.

XYZ wants to build statue, sees Indian comoany building these world class ones in short time period and less amount.

XYZ gives contract and money to Indian company to make their statues and buildings.

India gets more money and more employment generated

Pakistan still counting statues in India but don't count the number of dams built before the statues.

Pakistan still can't build dams

I have mentioned this earlier, but this statue symbolizes Modi's iron determination and grit too.

You see, it started in 2005 when Modi wanted funds to increase the height of the Sardar Sarovar dam to make the area safer, hold more water for drinking and irrigation and generate Hydro-electric power.

But the CONgress in the center refused to give him permission to do that, so he went to court and got a judgement in his favor.

Then the CONgress tried to stop his source of funding and rang a campaign to vilify him for gujarat riots and asked the IMF to stop the loan for the project.

But Modi again raised the funds for building the dam without IMF and completed the project. The dam was named after Sardar Patel who was admired in GUjarat but hated by the CONgress nehru family.

At that time he promised to build the worlds largest statue of Sardar Patel overlooking the dam as a symbol of India's self respect and Determination to succeed against all odds. A statue of a man called the "iron man of India" due to his indomitable will.

And today the worlds largest statue stands on the banks of that same river, overlooking the same dam that was built and is a symbol of all that we can achieve if we put our heart and mind to it.

Modi himself was called "chote sardar" in gujarat or smaller version of Sardar patel, the Iron man of India.

So you see, when the story has such a great beginning, it is sure to have a great success too. And its the story of India's fight against odds and a symbol of our confidence to dream big and make that happen.

So many dams, so many statues so many xyz zzzzzzzzzzzss but no toilets .....why tell why no toilets

India will have 100% toilets by end of December 2018, but 42% of pakistan still do not have toilets.

So rather than laugh, don't you think you should be building toilets in pakistan ?

Will is very dangerous word especially when Indian uses it, we will be superpower, we will acquire that etc etc kid claim when you already build, currently Indian is the home of world's largest poorest population.

In order for humans to progress, they need to push boundaries.
My question was based on that..Do you need a HUGE statue to know you can push boundaries? Considering that same money could be used in ACTUALLY PUSHING THE BOUNDARY??

They are building large statues.

And who knows?
So, all this will be "discovered" while building an enormous WORLD RECORD statue not a skyscraper?

Maybe one day Pakistan will build a large cricket stadium or university or mosque.
And they might be confronted with the same construction problems and then they will use the solutions to these problems.
Solutions which were earlier obtained by the builders of the statue.
You think statue building is the same as building a stadium or university? If so, then indians can build the largest uni on the planet (for their world record obsession) and also learn the same "solutions", right?

Another reason is art.

Spending money on art did not bring about Renaissance....Renaissance was more than building statues and art work it also funded philosophy and science...

And from history we can also see how money DID become a problem for all those who were busy building temples, palaces instead of investing in progress!

Sometimes you need to spend money on art in order to build a legacy.

Ahh...so india is lacking legacy? Too many monuments from the Muslim legacy "attracting tourists" and the need to balance it?

Just like the Eiffeltower, tower of Pisa, Christ the Redeemer, Washington monument and many other statues dedicated to history, culture, persons throughout the whole world etc.
Well Eiffeltower isnt about a religion
Christ wasnt in a secular country when it was built
Washington monument is not for praying

Bad examples! Build a museum then compare to these :D

The subject is INDIA right? I mean we are talking about INDIA right?
No other country is RELEVANT other than INDIA in this thread..

I though the topic was Statues, not India.
