After India, Nepal, China under Maoist threat

There are a lot of Maoists around in China. Talk to those 50-60 years old laid-off workers in China's rust belts, many of them would think Mao's years were better because although everyone's poor they were sort of 'equal'. Fortunately no young people share those sentiments.

Whoa whoa whoa holdon here I think it is a bit of an overexaggeration to say that there are no young Maoists in China. Go on any Chinese military forum and you will see a lot of young (born after the 90s) Maoists who staunchly defend the "Great Helmsmen". Ironically they are often at odds with the current government due to the fact that they perceive the "reformists" as weak on territorial issues/Western provacations. They get censored more than the pro-Western faction on forums like Tiexue.

Now for a bit of my personal opinion on Mao. Although I admire his military and political accomplishments his policies definitely failed on the long run. He tried to do to many things as once and really wasn't receptive to criticisms (which led to things like the cultural revolution and purging of opposition within the CCP). However without Mao China wouldn't have had the "sheltered" environment and probably wouldn't have had the chance to become a true superpower today.

As a side note Mao was also an accomplished poet. I can safely say that the Jingying who bash him day and night probably couldn't write anything that matches his best poems in a thousand years.

I agree with you 100%.

Chairman Mao deserves respect for being the founder of the CPC, however it can not be denied that he made a lot of mistakes, that caused a lot of suffering in China.

Overall, I definitely prefer the "modern" CPC. The new leadership is more pragmatic, and less ideological.
