After India, Nepal, China under Maoist threat?
KATHMANDU: After a 10-year Maoist uprising in Nepal and an ongoing, spreading red revolution in India, now the first stirrings of the communist guerrilla movement have begun in the land that inspired the rebellion China.
Almost 90 years after the Communist Party of China was formed in Shanghai and down the decades became the ruling party of the people's republic, now its leadership is being challenged by a fledgling organisation, the Maoist Communist Party of China (MCPC).
Little is known about the underground party beyond that it was founded in Nov 2008 with the aim of eventually staging a "second socialist revolution" against the "traitoro us revisionist ruling bloc of the Chinese Communist Party... the top enemy of the peoples of China".
In December 2008, members of the MCPC distributed a pamphlet in Beijing and Shanghai "To all the people of China" that they say was also picked up by international media organisations like Radio Free Asia and the Voice of America.
"The basic political line of the party is to completely overthrow the traitorous revisionist ruling bloc within the current Chinese Communist Party and the restored bureaucratic-capitalist class, so that Maoism shall gain victory over revisionism, and socialist society will win against capitalist society," the pamphlet says. "The ultimate objective of our party is to achieve communism."
The Chinese Maoists say the present domestic and international environment is very conducive to the Chinese revolution: "The economic crisis of global capitalism is continuing to deepen, and there is no way for the Chinese bureaucratic capitalists to pull out of it themselves. The economic and political rule of the ruling bloc has been shaken from both sides. Against the rising revolutionary situation, the ruling bloc is already utilising ways to satisfy the people in a limited manner to appease the public, as well as strengthening their control on the army and the police to protect their wavering rule."
After the pamphlet was distributed, the Chinese Maoists say the government has stepped up police repression and surveillance. But their propaganda is being reinforced online and through fraternal Maoist organisations abroad, especially in the US and Canada. Recently, the party has issued a 20-point programme, which includes reforming the army, restoring communes and handing over to the people the monopolistic state-owned joint-stock enterprises formed after 1977.
The Chinese Maoists also pledge to reform the education system, revolutionise medicare and bring salaries on par. Finally, it warns that all corrupt officials who have escaped overseas with large amounts of money will be chased and arrested no matter where they have escaped. And those who refuse to repent for their political crimes, no matter where they are located in the world, will be executed.
