What's new

After a decade construction and USD $25 billion investment, the world biggest flower shaped man made tourist island completed in South China Sea

It took a private company ( Evergrande Group ) 10 years.

the same Evergrande that carries more than twice Pakistan’s total national debt at around a 130 billion dollars. Ocean flower island , talk about bad investments....Evergrande is going to take a few banks down with it in the near future.

. . .
Atrociously ugly

Suits the terrible tastes of rich but inelegant 50 to 70 year old people in China.

Evergrande looks like it's managed by a bunch of dimwits. It's time to pull the plug on this developer.

China is really trying to put Hainan on the map. I heard it is also Visa free now for most other countries. Plus they have a high speed rail ringing the island which makes it easy to see all of the destinations.

It is beautiful. Most of what is built in China is beautiful and serene. Old China/Thailand/Japan had beautiful peaceful buildings also. At least they were to me. I am sure other kinds of people enjoy different sorts of things. For example US citizens of Chicago built that huge black square Sears tower and GM Cadillac preferred to make black boxy cars. Then other people build almost nothing and just accumulate/buy weapons. different tastes/beliefs.

I should say Sears looks beautiful.

GM building is a little old-fashioned now.

They are the backbone of domestic tourism. They swarm every hot spot. In TW, as well, retirees are the backbone of tourissm.

They have money and time.
Nonsense
I am a friend of China.
I feel sad if those beautiful structures be blown away by global warming.

Let's enjoy until that day comes. Or, you like slums?

yeah different kinds of people like different things. To me the Sears tower is homage to the "Black" Tower of Mordor and Orthanc, the "Black" tower of Isengard. Makes sense...Chicago is a city of violence and murder.

It looks cool, but good they have forbidden the building of new artificial Islands, it's a waste of resources.

Agree. I think the building reflects the city well. Imagine chaos dawns in city, rule of law collapses entirely, city-block drug lords manages the economy, and Sears building becomes the center for a turf war.

So insanely beautiful.
