Afridi raises $1.12 million for social cause

Karachi: Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has raised around $1.12 million for an Islamic relief agency working to improve the living conditions of people in the rural areas of Baluchistan province.

Afridi undertook a week-long tour of the USA this month on the agency’s behalf and spoke at five dinner receptions in different cities to raise funds for the project. “It was a very successful tour and I am amazed at the response of the people. Not only Pakistanis living in the United States, but even the Indians and locals showed an open heart for the welfare project,” Afridi said. The hard-hitting batsman had undertaken a tour of Baluchistan where the Islamic relief agency is undertaking several development and welfare projects.

“It was only after I went and saw for myself how much help the people living there need that I decided to join hands with this agency to raise the much-needed funds,” Afridi said. Besides Afridi, former Pakistan captains Moin Khan and Rashid Latif also spoke at charity dinners in the United States last year to raise funds for the relief project.Afridi said the U.S. tour had been an awakening of sorts for him. — PTI

He raised a very nice figure. Hopefully, the new government will look into these issues instead of fulling their pockets which they have done so twice before.

May god bless him! Hats of to Afridi. :pakistan:

Way to go we need for unselfish people like him who can help others.

It is indeed good to here that people such as Shahid are using their influence to help Pakistan. Imran is doing the same, we have people like Shehzad Roy and many other. such people should use their personality to help Pakistan and we as Pakistanis must support them every step of the way.

Mashallah, May Allah reward him.
