Not the right time. Afghanistan is under a severe civil war that is only getting worse. How can we have investments and trade routes that would be the lifeline of Pakistan through a country marred in civil war where peace seems nowhere near and the govt is constantly on the back foot and having control on only half the country.

How will that ensure proper trade when Taliban routinely attack trucks ad NATO supplies?

How can we ensure cost effective trade when Taliban collect taxes from the populace or are we to pay transit tax to the Taliban and the afghan govt?

First Afghanistan needs to take effective control on its territory and wipe out the terror havens that effect pakistan and the region and stop supporting and exporting terrorism. Plus the relations between the two countries are at a low and any incident of terror would see pakistan block trade routes which would undermine cpec.


My suggestion would be that rather than getting lost in the Afghan quagmire, reach middle east through Iran, and Arabian sea. Reach east China either through india or through China. And reach central Asia and from there Europe through China rather than Afghanistan.

We can avoid Afghanistan without many detours.

Well before we closed the boarder with Afghanistan we used to control the Afghanistan imports, all of them. They are the only country in the world dominated by Pakistani imports. You shut them away u r giving that market to Indians and Iranians.

Last month Afg said no to Cpec and now they want to join it? They can't make up their mind, can they?

Anyway, Afg trucks come all the way from Kabul to Lahore and Karachi to export their goods to the world, mostly India. After joining cpec they will be probably using Gwader port to export their goods. Plus, we need nearby market to export all the products Chinese are gonna manufacture in Pakistan after relocating smaller industries here.

The more business in Gwader means lesser business for Chahbahar, which probably only India would be using to export their junk to Afg. To compete Indian junk in afg, we need to export more from Pakistan to Afghanistan, both Pakistani and Chinese products. Good for the economy of Pak as it will increase our export.

All in all, Afg joining cpec will:
- Increase Pak exports
- Generate more Toll taxes in Pak
- Make Afg lesser dependent on India
- Make Afg more dependent on Pakistan(and China)
- Give Indian junks in Afg bloody competition
- Reduce the importance of Chahbahar.
