This is a shame for multiple reasons.
1. We are using refugees as a political football. These people are in the need the same way the people of Burma or Syria or Yemen are in need. War is not a game, we are lucky we have safety. If many of us spoke to our grandparents they could tell us about the desperation of being refugees.
2. We are sending them back on short notice in the middle of winter. The young and the old will die because of our decision to kick them out under these conditions.
3. We missed an opportunity. For decades we mismanaged refugees, people who could have been an asset for us, have become a liability.
Unfortunately due to our mismanagement, getting rid of the refugees is quickly become a matter of security. No doubt there is still a spiteful political aspect to it. I reluctantly feel this is inevitable, but I think they should have until May to return, so that people can go in the spring and have a better chance of survival.
