After becoming the President, Ashraf Ghani went out of the way to improve relations with Pakistan that has deteriorated under Hamid Karzai regime. Its Pakistan's diplomatic failure to have lost the opportunity. Earlier the people of Afghanistan used to protest against Pakistan but now the president of the country is talking the language of its people.

Ghani was pretty to naive to begin with, he thought talking to pakistan the issues could be solved. But he was taken for a royal ride by pakistan. His faith in pakistan was completely broken, now he's totally gone bitter. Morever given that he is sharing power with other guy who had warned about pakistan it was double whammy for him. His intelligence chief protested and resigned when ghani overrode his advice on pakistan. Now ghani is paying for his stupidity.

The heavy presence of Pakistan taliban in NWFP and the FATA say a different tale. There is no difference between Pakistan Taliban and Afghan Taliban. Both wants establish Islamic rules over their respective countries.

True, the fact is that just like syria ,afghan taliban and pakistan taliban dont recognize any boundaries. They want to create islamic state comprising territory on both sides of border. It is pretty stupid to think one is better than other.

He opened the border unilaterally not even getting Afghanistan to verbally say that Afghanistan will not allow its soil to be used against Pakistan. Someone needed to ask this moron why did he ordered to open the border so that Afghanistan can once against start spitting venom? At the very least till the time Afghan border was closed Afghanistan could not blame attacks on Pakistan. Now they have again got the chance to do what they do best.

Why didn't you say before Pakistan reopened its Afghan-border? Pakistan should take this statement on board and thank Ashraf Ghani for providing a valid reason to close the border again for good. Afghanistan isn't choked by closed Pakistan border, most of the Afghan trade even before 9/11 was through Iran I am told.

Afghanistan or Kabul?

Controlling 1/5th of a country does not provide a legitimate government representation.

As for alternative routes- those will happen when actual usable routes exist; so far, most of those routes are besigned by the Taliban on and off.

The Kabul government is in trouble and are trying everything they can.
Sadly for them, besides the new Hindu Facist regime in Akhand(-ish) Bharat what was formerly known as India - no one else has the time
