KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An Afghan police officer killed at least 10 of his fellow officers on Saturday, a day after six U.S. service members were gunned down by their Afghan partners in summer violence that has both international and Afghan forces questioning who is friend or foe.

Attacks on foreign troops by Afghans working with the alliance are on the rise and, while cases of Afghan security forces killing within their own ranks are less frequent, together they show how battle lines have blurred in the decade-long war.

The assaults on international service members have stoked fear and mistrust of their Afghan allies, threatening to hamper the U.S.-led coalition's ongoing work to train and professionalize Afghan policemen and soldiers. The attacks also raise questions about the quality of the Afghan forces that have started taking charge of security in many areas of the country as U.S. and NATO combat troops move to withdraw by the end of 2014.

Coalition officials say a few rogue policemen and soldiers should not taint the overall integrity of the Afghan security forces and that the attacks have not impeded plans to hand over security to Afghan forces, which will be 352,000 strong in a few months. But there is growing unease between international troops and their Afghan partners and that's something Taliban insurgents are happy to exploit.

Shakila Hakimi, a member of the Nimroz provincial council, said the policeman who opened fire on his colleagues at a checkpoint in Dilaram district is believed to have had ties to militants. He was killed in an ensuing gunbattle, she said in a telephone call from the provincial capital of Zaranj, along Afghanistan's western border with Iran.

"The checkpoint is in a remote area of a remote district," Hakimi said. "The telecommunications are poor and we are not able to get more details."

Hakimi said the provincial governor has sent a team to the scene to get more details about what happened.

Taliban can send a few but it won't change the outcome no matter what.

what are they doing? Killing each other. It seems Taliban presence is growing in security forces.

Second deadly attack on US troops in Afghanistan

Two separate gun attacks on Nato-led troops in south Afghanistan have left a total of six US soldiers dead, coalition officials say.
An Afghan civilian employee shot three soldiers, all from the US, at a base in Helmand province on Friday evening.

Earlier on the same day, also in Helmand, an Afghan police officer shot three US marines after inviting them to dinner at a checkpoint.

Green on Blue - a sign of the poor level of discipline, and vetting in the ANA.

Are you sure its only the taliban problem..... ??? US military usually use yelling (and other such tactics) as a motivational tool (most of the armies do Including Pakistan)... But It may be lot of pressure on a Afghan who already is really fucked up by his economy, Long war, and other social problems... And then there is news of quran burning, Civilian killing etc....you can't just put everything on Taliban.... If taliban are sending these men what tactics ANA and ISAF are using to counter it.... They keep sending and ANA keep recruiting..... ??? Maybe just to reach the target number before deadline. ISAF and ANA should take special notice on soldier mind stress, their cultural values.

Rest in peace the dead. Nothing more sad for a nation to hear that their soldier got killed by their allies.

What does this jargon even mean?

It means that no matter how they try to infiltrate and killed ISAF personnel to create mistrust its not going to change anything. Look up on Operation Greif.

So far the Taliban has claimed all attacks. Yes its usually acceptable that foreigners who kills civilians its an outrage against ISAF and there are protests but when Taliban kills civilians its a common practice and acceptable and no protests at all. Most ISAF have respect for Afghan values except for few bad apples. Did you know the Marines were ambushed when they were invited inside to dinner by the Afghan officer that killed them? That was all planned. Same as Afghan policeman that killed 10 Afghans himself. Does that mean the Afghans don't respect their own values and religion?

As well as whats going on in Iraq with all the bombings and killings with Allied forces out they still kill each other. Targeting Iraqi military and police and their families in their own homes.

Rest in peace.... If what you are saying is indeed true that the officer invited them to their house than they have touched a new low.... Respecting a guest and honoring him is one of thing People of these lands are known for.

Anyway my point was that tough love can play a role for a common afghan to tip him on the other side....especially in these conditions...and when he is on the other side he wont care if he is killing the ' invaders' or their ' infidel' allies..... Also i am still little concerned about recruiting process of ANA... Having such men joining the army can cause problems such as Insider help for Taliban, weapons smuggling, Knowing inside of ANA etc.... ANA should make sure they are not just filling the number.... Finding a good soldier might not be difficult in Afghanistan but process should be introduced to find Loyal soldiers.
