Afghan President Says Fight Should Be Taken to Pakistan

Afghanistan's president, Hamid Karzai, is urging U.S. forces to stop arresting suspected Taliban members and sympathizers in his country, saying that approach discourages militants from laying down their arms.

Mr. Karzai made the comment in an interview published Saturday by The New York Times. He said the real terrorist threat lies in Taliban and al-Qaida hideouts in Pakistan.


Mr. Karzai said the current policy of arresting Taliban militants in Afghanistan has just driven them across the border where they regroup and take up their weapons again.

President Karzai also said he supports the new Pakistani government's plan to negotiate for peace with Taliban and al-Qaida militants - a marked change in policy from the previous administration headed by President Pervez Musharraf. Mr. Karzai said relations between his government and that of Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have started off on a very good note.

Mr. Karzai faces a re-election campaign next year. His government has been criticized for not doing enough to eliminate corruption and bring under control the warlords who control much of the country.

We should take him out anyways. He's just a selfish ungrateful SOB who's playing in the hands on his new masters the indians and before he might become a real problem for pakistan, i think it is justifed to kick his teeth down his throat.

Afghanistan's problems are war lords, corruption, unemployment, drugs and foreign troops. Karzai has failed badly and the easiest way to avoid taking responsibility is to blame it on Pakistan.

his first visit to india....numerous consulates...n much more.... u r right as he has failed himself so his only way out is to blame us...moreover as this would in US's benefit they are also willing to pamper him....

u see its exactly like when something goes wrong in india the knee-jerk reaction is to blame the ISI, similarly all of afghanistans problems lie in pakistan. it is standard operating procedure (SOP)

i think the firing attack on karzai was also on "self help basis" by the afghani govt...he needs a man like Presidnet Musharaf to handle him. our new govt should b sending harsh replies to these kind of stupid blames...otherwise the cost can be high for us...

The problem lies with us. We have not once given afghanistan a strong message to back off or we will make you back off. Karzai who nothing more then just a ******* mayor of kabul suddenly accuses pakistan of terrorism, its because we never replied back with a harsh slap on his face, if we would have had, his tone would have been changed along ago. Karzai
