KABUL: An Afghan air force strike killed five soldiers and a police officer in western Afghanistan, an official said Saturday, the latest in a series of so-called “friendly fire” incidents.

Afghan helicopters “mistakenly” bombed their own forces after calling in air support as they battled the Taliban in the Kensk area of Farah province late Friday, Dawlat Waziri, a defense ministry spokesman, said.

“Because of the wrong coordinates, helicopters bombed an Afghan forces' checkpoint that unfortunately left five soldiers and one police officers dead,” he said.

“An investigation into the incident has been launched,” he added.

Last month a US air raid killed eight Afghan policemen in the southern province of Uruzgan, in the first such incident since American forces were given greater powers to strike at insurgents.

The US military in Afghanistan, however, said its forces were not involved in the air strike in Farah.

Civilian and military casualties caused by NATO and Afghan forces have been one of the most contentious issues in the 15-year campaign against Taliban insurgents, prompting harsh public and government criticism.

A US air strike killed up to 10 Afghan soldiers in July last year at an army checkpoint in Logar province south of Kabul, one of the deadliest episodes of “friendly fire” by foreign forces in recent years.

Afghanistan has a tiny air force compared to NATO's fleet, which carried out supply operations, air strikes and emergency evacuations until the drawdown of foreign coalition forces in 2014.

The air force has recently began bombing Taliban militants as the fighting rages in several provinces across the country.

. . . . . .
ANA helping taliban kill their own soldiers , ANA deserting check posts , ANA involved in bacha bazi. ANA is possibly the most unprofessional army you can come across.

@A-Team @Sher Malang how do you expect these guys to defend you?

Friendly fire happens even to the best in the world, the US has a number of friendly incidents all over and couple in Afghanistan.

Call ANSF names is uncalled for especially there are fallen soliders we are talking about right now.

Anyways since you called ANSF out in time when they mourning their fallen, so here I am going to get out of line a bit here since you asked for it. Which army in our neighbourhood surrendered in droves and handed over half of the country?
I could post a picture when the head of the military was signing the letter of the surrender.

so let's not throw stones when you live in a house build out of glass. Doesn't look good on your when you resort to cheapshots.

But I will not post the picture out of respect for some the fallen Pak soldiers in 1971 war.

It wasn't a cheapshot . ANA happens to have alot of these friendly fires and mir jaffar type figures . Wasn't it few days ago where they helped taliban kill 15 of their own soldiers?

As for 1971 mate any country would have lost that war . Winning that war was not possible with 2500 km apart and an enemy in between . :) . Since we are discussing wars you forget 1965 , Kargil or 47 ? When it's 1-1 without any overwhelming odds against you like 71 PA has performed majestically well . How do you think we held Kargil Peaks at height of 20 k for months ? . Your friends on the eastern side couldn't muster the courage in 2001 and again in 2008 .

You are refusing facts and figures . Doesn't ANA help taliban kill their own soldiers? Why do they vacate check posts so easily ? I have seen many of their videos under american leadership in different missions and they seem absent minded and mentally not there . It's a cry for help . Why do you think I keep on saying you need to check corruption in your country? That's the main thing eating you up . If you avoid the hard truths pretty soon Taliban will run over you again And you will then curse us . Better hear the truth now rather then be sorry about it later .

What about these?

In 1947, insurgents had taken over western Jammu - what you now call Azad Kashmir, Pakistan-administered Kashmir, mutineers had killed the Maharaja's troops and taken over Gilgit and Baltistan. Skardu was captured, Kargil was captured and Leh was under siege and in imminent danger of falling. Tribal raiders had pillaged, raped and murdered their way to the outskirts of Srinagar. And today you can see how far back these were repelled. Are you claiming a victory? After losing Ladakh, half of Baltistan and the Vale?

In 1965, nine commando detachments had been tracked down and liquidated, the retaliatory attack across the international boundary (the PA 12th Division did not attack across the LoC but the international boundary) was stalled and attacks on Sialkot and Lahore were resisted by a PA which lost most of its tanks at Asal Uttar. Was that too a victory?

In 1999, troops in position in fortified positions on the tops of cliffs were eliminated hilltop by hilltop and the LoC restored. And that, too, was a glorious victory. But how was it a PA victory? Pakistan denied that those hilltop ruffians were regular army, so how can the army claim credit for it?

What applies to Afghanistan according to you actually applies to you as well: If you avoid the hard truths pretty soon Taliban will run over you again. Try not to get too carried away by the rosy picture that ISPR paints.

This incident should not be ignored. The airforce of Afghanistan is already small with only a small number of helicopters, therefore calling for air support is rare. It is one of these rare incidences when air support was indeed available and the airforce was called in and surprise, they kill their own soldiers. I have rarely heard of airforce being used and perhaps this is the first time and on that first time Afghan soldiers were killed by their own airforce.

This incident proves that no matter what the west says, what America says Afghanistan is not ready to conduct its own operations, defeat terrorists and successfully beat back any foe that rises against it. Afghanistan has been made a mess by America and NATO and ISAF (also the taliban, drug cartels and warlords) and it is in no position to fight militants itself. America ran off unwilling to put more troops in danger and were cruelly negligent to the Afghans need for training.

I feel sorry for Afghanistan. Even its tiny airforce when used killed its own troops. Pakistan must support the Afghans and give them reason to pull away from India.

1947 = Took half of Kashmir .

1965 = An army that was twice our size took a good amount of beating (including battle of Chawinda , largest tank battle after ww2 which you lost). Lets not go into Airforce where IAF was humbled and Dismantled by PAF .

1999 = It took you thousands of soldiers to dislodge few hundred soldiers in kargil . PA has taken responsibility for Kargil and posted names of 400 plus soldiers that were martyred . T he fact that it took you that long to handle few hundred NLI soldiers and in return you got 527 dead . Peak 5353 is still in our control btw .

Well maybe you should send some of your soldiers to us so we can train them how to kill terrorists in an instant rather then letting them run like mad men in airbase for 5 days . :)
