KABUL, Afghanistan, May 27 (UPI) -- Four NATO soldiers were killed in bomb attacks in southern Afghanistan, the military alliance announced in Kabul Sunday.

The nationalities of the soldiers weren't disclosed, although NATO said the deaths were a result of three roadside bombings, The New York Times said.

Spokesman Maj. Martyn Crighton said the attacks didn't appear to have been coordinated.

The deaths raised this month's toll to 33 for the international intervention launched to roust Taliban and al-Qaida Muslim extremists that began in 2002.

Elsewhere, NATO's Chrichton said an investigation was under way into reports an allied airstrike on a suspected militant target killed an entire family in the eastern province of Paktia Saturday night, CNN said.

"We are taking any claim about civilian casualty very seriously, and we are looking at finding out information about what really happened last night," he said.

Civilian reports said two adults and six children were killed in the air attack.

The air attack was launched in response to attacks on NATO troops in the area, the report said.
