Mate, now you are confusing me.....now, if they never had been agreed to recognize the border in their entire history...that would be a whole different case. It doesn't matter if the whole world agrees with you or not.
Let me give you an example.
We have territorial waters dispute with Greece.
The standard width of territorial waters that countries are customarily entitled to has steadily increased in the course of the 20th century: from initially
3 nautical miles (5.6 km) at the beginning of the century, to
6 nautical miles (11 km), and currently
12 nautical miles (22 km). The current value has been enshrined in treaty law by the
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982 (Art.3).
Turkey has refused to become a member of the convention and does not consider itself bound by it. Turkey considers the convention as
res inter alios acta, i.e. a treaty that can only be binding to the signing parties but not to others.
Here is your; territorial waterz, EEZ and continental shelf.
As you see it is the ocean doesn't overlapping with anybody, etc...It's like this for the most countries, they increased the width gradually to exploit more resources from the oceans.
However Turkey's case very different and completely disregarded in the UN.
This the 6 miles territorial waters for Greece.
And this is the 12 miles territorial waters for Greece.
As you can see if they increase their territorial waters to 12 miles, Turkish ships can't sail from, it's Northern ports to southern ports without passing Greek waters...As well as it is going to be a set-back for our navy...
- So, we didn't signed this treaty and said we are not part of it and do not recognize it.
- Greece said that they don't care if we recognize it or not and they will extend it to 12 miles.
- We said, if you increase your territorial waters to 12 miles, we accept it as a Casus Belli, and wreck havoc on your country.
- They didn't made any attempts till then.
That's why i'm saying, if they had never recognized the border in any place in the history. It becomes disputed....though, in these kind of disputes, the one who holds the bigger gun, dictates his will on the other......
