Increasing cross border attacks, ISIS presence across the border and the winding up of operation Zarb-e-Azb calls for a heavily secured AF-PAK border. The absence of functional border security forces on the other side has added to Pakistan's troubles. With the increasing militant capabilities, Pakistan also, has to adapt to modern solutions. Please keep in mind that the purpose of this article is not to undermine the need for economical and educational upliftment of the local population, but to voice what is perhaps an equally necessary step to containing militancy and maintaining peace.

Many countries, namely, India, Israel and Saudi Arabia, facing troubled borders and unconventional warfare, have adopted such monitoring systems that consist of Electro-Optical sensors and/or Ground Surveillance radars, and have been fairly successful in their efforts.

A few systems that are being marketed are mentioned below.

Aselsan Arslan Mobile border Surveillance System

The system mentioned above is being offered by Aselsan of Turkey. It consists of mobile GSRs and E/O systems and thus built for situations where it is not appropriate to use stationary surveillance systems due to geographical restrictions or operational criteria.

Another good system is the long range Ground Observer 80 GSR that is being offered by Thales. It has a 24 km detection range for pedestrians, and up to 80 km for larger targets.

A network of a hundered mobile posts consisting of GO-80s, Remote Controlled Weapon Stations and E/O sensors mounted on armoured vehicles can cover the entire AF-PAK border. They can also be coupled with additional RCWS mounted armoured vehicles for protection and threat interception.

UAVs that are already being used by the Pakistani forces can also be used to complement the ground systems.

By now, most of you might be wondering about the cost of such a project. All this can be done with a few 100 million dollars. Let me remind you that the cost of operation Zarb-e-Azb has been more than $2 billion and border security has to be maintained if the gains are to be retained. At this point, i would also stress that the acquisitions related to war on terror are very crucial and demand preference over those required for our eastern border because they are needed for a war that is on-going.

Let us close this damned border and shift our focus on other pressing matters.

This is a must needed in Eastern & Western border as well.

.
We need permanent presence of Pakistan Armed Forces in FATA and surrounding regions.

New cantonments should be build, border security should be tightened, local tribals should be taken into confidence, and a proper checks and balances system should be put in place to stop any further barbarians coming to our lands from the East.

.
Pakistan use Drones for surveillance and when they found approaching terrorist towards Pakistan fired them Burq Missiles plus put ground surveillance towars with radars connected with drone squadron every 200,300km in case of attack drone immediately take action while approaching the enemies.

.
FATA should be given status as a self-governing body. Extensive focus should be given to Infrastructure development by Government of Pakistan. Army is no fro Infrastructure development. Government should do its work and resolve Army of this extra duty to build schools, markets, hospitals etc. I agree new cantonment should also be build. Furthermore as we are aware that there is a great Cross Borders relations of families across AF-PAK, Border rules should be strict but also easily understandable. May be a yearly renewable card can be given to frequent travelers.
Installation of a Geo-Surveillance System alone cannot secure our western border. Although its need cannot be denied.

Great this could sort out most of our Issues on Border of Afghanistan

why start another thread, when we have clearly discussed this, last month or perhaps two months ago???

Yar this one was not exactly meant for discussion. PDF facebook page shared some other thread of mine a few days ago so i compiled all that was said in that previous thread (Which was actually created last year) in a single post and asked Horus to share it on fb, hoping that someone might look into it.

This is not the first time i have asked this of him. Quite some time ago, I asked him to promote the idea by himself on fb page. I didn't get a reply so this time i made a seperate thread and he shared it.

Excellent technique to neutralize ISIS................... Pakistan Army should buy these system immediately.

.
First thing first, Pakistan will have to seal the border, mine it heavily from head to toe & monitor the border 24/7 with Rangers or FC & armed drones, there should be no mercy shown to those who will try to cross the border.

.
Yes it is good but we must remember and combine 3 other things

Put barbed wires along Pak afghan border and create check posts

Than bring this aslean survileance system

Than dedicate 5 to 10 small to large drone to keep survillance from air when ground based radar detect terrorist coming in

This will most probably gurantess safety

Yes it is expansive but not more expansive than next APS attack beter we learn
