Accused Indian diplomat needs US OK for UN job

India now is too powerful even for US, like Raymond Affair in PAK , at last PAK has to release Raymond even after killing.

At last , technically , Americans had to get their spy out by paying " blood money " to the victim's family accepting guilt on his part and admitting that he had no diplomatic immunity . The only relevance here is that they tried to declare him a diplomat and thus under immunity after he killed two people with your recent attempts to get her " full immunity " after the charges were pressed .

The outcome of this whole thing is yet to come , wait for it .

That's a prime example of 'Chalta hai' attitude of Indians.

No wonder you're unable of comprehend the wrong Devyani has done, because according to you its a routine violation that you experience and probably are complicit in everyday!

Here is another news last year where we would never hear a peep from many Indians because it was just an illiterate maid who suffered and the maid does not "represent" India. If only the diplomat was to be handcuffed/strip-searched we would have seen an outrage where the 17 year old maid would have been the villain of the story.

Adhikaar, an advocacy group for the Nepalese community that successfully lobbied for the New York State Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, reports that the diplomat and her husband brought Gurung to New York in 2006 with the promise of paying her $100 a month to do light cooking and a few chores. The 17-year-old ended up working 16-hour days, cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry, grocery shopping and giving massages.

Gurung was paid once, less than $120 over a period of more than three years. She felt trapped and helpless, paralyzed with fear over the Malhotras' threats.

Anil Verma: Indian diplomat who 'assaulted wife' ordered to leave Britain | Mail Online

Apparently Indian IFS officers believe that they can get away with breaking the host country's laws because of 'diplomatic immunity'.

An Indian diplomat who allegedly assaulted his wife and then claimed diplomatic immunity from prosecution has been ordered to leave Britain by the Indian government.

Anil Verma, his country’s third most senior diplomat in London, could now face a charge of domestic violence in an Indian court.

Paromita Verma’s allegation that her husband slapped her at the family home on December 11 has provoked a national scandal in India.

However, last night Mr Verma’s parents branded her ‘immoral’ and accused her of trying to destroy their son’s reputation and that of India.

Police were called to the family home in Golders Green last month after neighbours reported screaming and allegedly saw Mrs Verma run into the street covered in blood.

Vishnu Prakash of India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: ‘Once he returns to India, the matter will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken under the laws of the land.

‘We take this matter seriously. There is no question of condoning domestic violence.’

Does anyone know what 'appropriate actions' have been taken against this douche-bag?

Whatever , If she get immunity , then no matter old case may be , no one can touch her.

Deyani arrest case fallout: India withdraws ID cards of US Consulates

India on Tuesday withdrew all ID cards provided to US Consular officials as a reciprocal measure taken by the New Delhi government in retaliation against the alleged harsh treatment of its deputy consul-general Devyani Khobragade in New York following her arrest in the alleged visa fraud case involving a maid she had taken from India.

The firm reciprocal step by the Indian government came following the end of Monday deadline for surrendering the identity cards provided to US Consular Staff in India.

The new ID cards will only be given to the Consular officials and not to their family members.

Acting reciprocally, US consular staff will now only be permitted to import their requirements during the first six months on assuming office.

According to reports, the data including salaries paid to staff in US schools has been received and is being analysed.

Notably, disturbed by the alleged 'indignities' its diplomat underwent after her arrest in the visa fraud case, India moved on multiple fronts to squeeze American diplomats in the country.

US consulate staff and their families were asked to return their diplomatic ID cards; details were sought of Indians employed in the consulates, along with their bank accounts and PAN numbers, as also names and salaries of teachers employed at US embassy schools; import duty waivers, including permits to bring in liquor, were withdrawn.

The government also got the Delhi Police to remove the special barricading outside the US Embassy in New Delhi that had closed a part of Nyaya Marg to the public.

India had strongly conveyed to the US that the manner of Khobragade's arrest was unacceptable.

Besides being handcuffed in public, Khobragade, 39, was also allegedly strip-searched and forced to undergo repeated body cavity searches before she was freed on a $250,000 bail bond.

Indians soon will be attacking any Pakistani embassy with some conspiracy.
Or would retaliate their anger by doing a bomb blast in Pakistan.

Quote of the year! :-)

I understand there is already a 10 mile waiting list full of Pakistanis for doing the bold part above... :D

We are preparing our ICBMs, SSNs, SSBNs, ACs to attack mainland US instead.

Sorry we don't have time.

She is a Deputy Consular of India and she is a representative of India in the US. She is highly capable individual reason why she is posted in the US.

US is showing its arrogance by using its tentacles in India through mudslinging and media campaign on Devayani. This is not about US domestic laws or any crimes she has done but about the Bilateral relationship between two countries.

Maid only accused her and she is not even proven guilty. The USA diplomatic guys posted here in India also have their homosexual partners based on Indian Laws they can be detained and held here.

Regarding Adarsh scam and all, Media should restrain from painting Devayani in bad light as lot of High profile guys are also involved in this one and some of them are innocent.

The Diplomat should be allowed to go to India and an unconditional apology must be issued by the USA state Department for their barbaric act. They can torture their citizens with their laws but not Indian Female citizen posted in USA.

If India wants to rescue its diplomat and bring her back to India, what India should do is hiring the best lawyer in NY. Otherwise, its all empty talk while your diplomat head to prison in NY. So far, all I hear are empty threats. I don't know why India is not getting her the best representation...

The problem is that India so not have anything that can attack US. And it would be foolish for India to try such a thing.

Simply put, because Indians bureaucrats/politicians are idiots. UPA govt. doesn't want to come across as softie and opposition won't be satisfied with anything less than complete acquittal and return of Devyani (which is not happening).

Well, if she wins in court, it would be complete acquittal and she can go any where she wants to.

If a US consular accused of committing a crime in India, he/ she will not land in an indian jail. In fact, you will return the consular immediately, unharmed, not humiliated, and be a good boy like they always knew you would.

In summary, indian tough talking will not work with US. India is not qualified to do so.

Hi,

It will work for india----. U S has too much at stake over eher---the americans made a stupid mistake---now they don't seem to find a way out of it---.

I very much doubt that india is going to back down after so much display of anger and dissatisfaction over handling of this case.

U S is between a rock and a hard place---.

Right, and that is what India should have been trying for IMO. But, sadly Indians believe that ridiculous measures like removing security barriers and removing the duty waiver on alcohol would force US to acquiesce.

If the immediate family agrees , yes . Its a black law , based on illogical and wrong interpretation of the religion but yes a law of the land . There's little or no relevance here with your case so focus on the topic before it becomes a troll-fest here with you leading the way .

Whatever , If she get immunity , then no matter old case may be , no one can touch her.

I said " The outcome of the case is yet to come , wait for it " . Read the title .

The best way to prevent jail time for this diplomat is to win the case. Have India hired the best lawyer for this diplomat yet?

UNITED NATIONS — The United Nations says it has processed the Indian government’s request to register the country’s deputy consul general, who is accused of lying on a visa form about how much she paid her housekeeper, as a member of the country’s mission to the United Nations.

But the U.N. spokesman’s office said Monday the U.S. State Department must approve the transfer of Devyani Khobragade from her consulate post to India’s U.N. Mission.

The Indian government reportedly sought to transfer Khobragade to the U.N. Mission because diplomats there have greater immunity.

The Dec. 13 arrest of Khobragade has sparked a diplomatic storm between the United States and India.

Khobragade, who was arrested outside her daughter’s school, complained that she was strip-searched and held in a cell “with drug addicts” until her appearance before a judge.

U.S. prosecutors say Khobragade lied on a visa form about how much she paid her housekeeper and actually paid her around $3 per hour. She has pleaded not guilty to charges she submitted false documents to obtain a visa for the Indian housekeeper.

The U.N. spokesman’s office said it received a letter from India’s U.N. Ambassador Asoke Mukerji requesting Khobragade’s registration as a member of India’s U.N. Mission on Dec. 18 and it was processed on Dec. 20.

Khobragade could face a maximum sentence of 10 years for visa fraud and five years for making a false declaration if convicted. She has said she has full diplomatic immunity. The State Department disputes that, saying her immunity is limited to acts performed in the exercise of consular functions.
