Abu Dhabi rents are second-highest in the world

.
Levina, my comment was just a general comment about the overall situation in the GCC without going into too many details.
You know, a certain amount of frustration sets in when you realise you're paying (probably) one of the highest rents in the world. Lolzz

Yes, i understood that your previous post was made in KSA's context. :)

Still expensive.
My fault.
I forgot to mention that I had booked that room during eid, when the prices are on a higher side. :)

Still its RAK. I paid almost as much for a room in a 4 star hotel in dubai located next to the beach in peak season.

The issue with Dubai is that the rent fluctuates...alot.
About 4 years back flats were dirt cheap in Dubai. But it has not been so with Abudhabi, the city(and its rents) were stable even when recession had hit, let me remind you Dubai was one of the worst effected back then.
UAE best to work but worst in rents u pay high rents but quality of living at home / flate worst me sick of that living here since my birth but i don't like it. Being a tourist something different living here totaly different.

Yeah right...the only good thing about the hotel was the view (mangroves and sea). Did i tell you it was king suite?
hehehe
I know you might want to drill some sense into me now. When i mentioned about it, i had completely forgotten these 2 aspects. Btw i booked a king suite bcoz no other rooms were available (i mean anything cheaper).

.
In another thread Iran is declared most developed country in the region.

3 things that makes UAE attractive for Indians is:
1) Tax-free.
2) Close to India. (its just a 4hr flight).
3) UAE is mini India. We have lots of relatives in UAE.

I understand that but you can't complain too much considering that you pay no taxes at all, that health care is for free and that most services are cheap. UAE is moreover one of the most save countries on the planet and extremely diverse. As an Indian (from Kerala if I recall) you won't ever feel alone either.

I mean there is a reason why the GCC (KSA alone actually) is only second in terms of remittances after the US in the entire world. It's due to that region being very attractive for people from the entire world basically.

Kingdom world’s second top remittance-sending country | Economy | Saudi Gazette

While the GCC is not perfect due to the regimes there and certain idiotic rules (KSA unfortunately leads on this front in the GCC) the systems in place in terms of a wide ranch of aspects is very effective and admirable.

The GCC are basically highly evolved welfare states with services that are comparable to the richest Western countries. Something that is unheard of in the Muslim/developing world. It's also the by far richest region of the Muslim world (2 trillion dollar GDP (nominal), highest GDP (nominal) per capita, highest Human Development Index scores etc.

Despite all of those positives I can't stop thinking how much more effective the systems would be today had the attempts to diversity the economies kickstarted 20 years earlier, had the laws been more liberal, the introduction of taxes and an even more liberal economic model.

Well, that's for the future.

Also recently I have concluded that people born in the GCC, who speak Arabic, know the culture and history of the region and who wish to settle there for good should be given citizenship regardless where their parents originate from. This is alien for most Asian countries but I think that the GCC should take this step.

I grew up with Yemenis, Egyptians, Palestinians, Syrians, Iraqis, Pakistanis, Indians etc. who never knew any other country than KSA and who felt like locals/loved the land and I always felt that it was a travesty that they were denied citizenship and the opportunity to settle in their country for good just because their parents were not locals. The Arabian Peninsula was always a diverse place (at the crossroads of the world surrounded by Africa, the remaining Asia, Europe and major seas) and the world is moving towards that (diversity) so no need to not take such steps.

Are you a Pakistani? :P
How come you watch Indian Movies??

*******
when I read this article I was furious at the government agencies who removed the cap on rents last year. Consequently, rents rose sharply and now nobody is happy about it.

The thing is...
In Abudhabi the rent has pretty much remained stable in last 5 years...believe it or not.
In 2010 it costed Dhs 6000/- (per month)for 1 bedroom flat, now it is about Dhs 6500/- per month for a 2 bedroom flat.

And this is not expensive actually. I have stayed in Chester, UK where I was paying 1200 GBP for a 2 bedroom flat. 1200GBP is almost same as ~6500 dirhams. I don't think it's expensive.

Yea once in a while. If I hear good reviews. Last one I watched was bajrangi bhaijan. It was pretty good.
Anyway back to the topic. Poor you living in one of the most expensive places.

The best option that we have is to buy a house, we then get the house on a 99yr lease, which means we wont need visa for 99 yrs(thats my understanding).

Believe it or not the trend is changing.
Most of the Indians now migrate to Western countries while a lot of westerners prefer UAE. That should be a reason why GCC has become a lot more liberal than it was previously.

London tops the list...just in case you missed it.

I said Chester bro. It's pretty far from London. It's in Wirral, UK. Point was, 1200GBP was not that much actually.

My point was, that when you say a city is expensive then places around it are expensive too.
Like right now rents in Dubai are just as high as Abudhabi.
But as I have repeatedly mentioned on this thread, that 5 yrs back rents were even higher in Abudhabi and it hasnt seen much slump since then, that should be a reason why it ranks high on the charts.
