We will have to wait for some survey to come up on whether Modi's popularity has taken a huge hit but unlikely. The freshness of Modi in power has somewhat diminished but by all indications, he remains fairly popular. As you do know, the votes were more for Modi rather than any sudden love for the BJP & it's agenda. He is not on the ballot, difficult to sustain. If your know your history, Karnataka under Ramakrishna Hegde went for state polls after Rajiv Gandhi's stupendous LS win in 1984 and the tables were completely turned on the congress. That was an election almost immediately after, still in RG's honeymoon period. This behaviour is not new, what was extraordinary was the BJP winning states like Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkand & doing well in J&K just on the basis of Modi, this election is more the norm.
