A Tribute to International Mother Language Day (21st February)

@Tameem: My main point was that they used excessive violence against the protesters for the language movement. Such protests were not uncommon during those days, given that South Asia is so diverse.

That and coupled with the agartala conspiracy (which was true) just made things very complicated and difficult.

Jinnah barely lived a year after Pakistan was established. He was a good man.

Bangladesh has maintained its sovereignty pretty decently throughout the decades, but now, things appear to be heading for the bad. A vassal state.

We'll see...

Dear….Language is not that profound issue for me or any of the masses of Pakistan, if its prominence serves you or any other Bengali any pride than have it wide on your chest, I’m not bothered at all…Simple...!! For me, Political thoughts and maturity are more important than Religion, creed or Language.

As for Mr. Jinnah we all know he is not a religious person at all in fact a secular…but He not only peruses a religious based line of Muslim League but actually create a strong country out of it as well…!! How?? Simply bcz he is genius too as well..!!

Look, as per him the stakes are simple, since the profound difference between us and them was religion therefore, any future state apart from United India would not be viable unless it stands on a sound footing, ground, Ideology and only religion could presents that pillars Muslims needs while tries to make a strong point against their adversaries i.e Hindus. Mere same kind of secularism or any type of nationalism could not stand the onslaught what India might already plan to bring about in future….and he is damn right!!!…we saw it through our own eyes….aka the state of Bangladesh in front of India…even most Bangladeshis including yourself called it a vessel state…at best…!!

So, the bottom line is if not now, sometime in future Bangladesh either to have merge with India or went into a confederation with Pakistan nonetheless, any one of both only for their own good…!!!

Thanks for the constructive post.

Jinnah was an intelligent man, no doubt. But to foresee far into the future, you need a whole new level of intelligence. South Asia would have been much more powerful and stronger had it been united since the start as a secular Union. However, I do think India's progress would have been hampered by such large number of radical Muslims in the west.

You guys don't anything about Jinnah. You can know more about him from articles in Pak Tea House or Ayesha Jalal's work.

Just for the starter, Jinnah was agreed to Surwardi and SC Bose's proposal of united Bengal independent of West Pakistan. Actually Bangladesh was never supposed to be included in West Pakistan.

As far as language was concerned, Jinnah was a constitutionalist and lacked Gandhi's ability of connecting to people, he listened to what the East Pakistani Urdu speaking elite told him.

So it was Hindus fault that you guys were slaughtering your Muslim brethren en masse in East Pakistan, is it?

The fact is Sardar Patel and Nehru wanted the partition so were Hindu elites in Bengal. And I respect them for their decision and vision, only they should have done more effort to keep the Mohajir community in North India.

Abir, Your post don’t make sense at all when written out of jealousy alone…!!

Look at the present state of Pakistan and Bangladesh. They would have hindered the growth of an undivided India. It's true Sardar Patel never wanted an undivided India and Bengali Hindu elites were afraid their clout will deminish in an undivided Bengal.
