Now i have seen everything
So a 7000 ton ship is now being classified as a frigate ,and i was confused as to Why did Indian Navy classify the 5600 Ton Shivalik Class as a frigate , considering that it was both heavier and more powerful than the Rajput Class Destroyer of Indian Navy
Now the Danish people have classified a 7000 ton ship as a Command and Control FRIGATE
What next , would we be seeing a 10000 ton Frigate in 2015![]()

UK, Italian, French, Dutch, Spanish LPDs all have a pennant number starting with L ....
The ship is classified as flexible support ship but a.k.a. command and support ship and a.k.a. transport frigate
The class is based on a frigate-type design (i.e. what became the patruljeskib, depicted above also), but built with an internal multipurpose deck (flex deck) and a stern vehicle ramp.
The flexdeck can be used for/with the following alternatives:
- a containerized command and control centre with a staff of 75 persons (naval or joint staff);
- a containerized hospital or simply transport a number of ISO standard containers
- mine-laying operations with a capacity of some 300 mines
- mine-clearing operations and launch and recover mine detecting and clearing equipment via a retractable gantry crane, adjacent to the stern ramp
- transport and base of operations for a company-sized landing force of some 200 men with vehicles. (the retractable gantry crane and the stern ramp are used for launching and recovering the fast landing craft).
- transport to some 55 vehicles including, up to 7 MBTs
The patruljeskib is off course one of those frigates 'on steroids' which are really destroyers in many ways, much like UK Type 45, Franco-Italian Horizon and FREMM, Dutch LCF, Spanish F100, German F124
The patruljeskib frigate and Absalon support ship are based on the same basic hull design and differ first and foremost in the presence/absence of the flexdeck.
