20 years have been lost. We have a generation suffering from PTSD. The war took out our intellectuals and academia.

We will never partake in anyone's war anymore.

Pakistan should use nuclear deterrence if ISIS Khorasan is pushed into the country.

dont know if mian would have said no but on the balance of probabilities dictators (and kings) the world over are more prone to take decisions unpopular with their masses but more acceptable to the foreign governments that back them.

I would argue the best chance the 'state' had of saying 'no' would be through a civilian government, case in-point Yemen.

With Alqaeda settling in Pakistans tribal areas by planning of US bombing, only choice Pakistan had to allow US direct boots on ground in Tribal areas(which was US ultimate plan) , destroying any semblance of sovereignty or take them on ourselves to maintain some control over the areas.
Only mistake our establishment did was pre sept 11, where they didn't anticipate such a scenario where Alqaeda in Afghanistan will become a problem one day and US one day will come to this region. We were caught off guard as proven by angry response of Musharraff to US bombing flush Alqaeda to ourside. They didn't realise in years to come Pakistan will be the main target.

Kugelman is a joke as a South Asia analyst. I recall seeing him on TV saying Pakistan had no capacity to retaliate against India after the Balakot aggression. He was making these comments at the same time as the PAF was dropping bombs on Indian military bases and shooting down Indian AC.

Most American South Asia analysts are lobbyists for Kabul or New Delhi. That's largely why USA strategy in the region hasn't worked. My advice to any military guys on this forum is not to pay too much attention to these lobbyist think tankers.
