His endless neighbourhood tours, overtures to China, and back-to-back summits with Barack Obama also drove home to Pakistan its global pariah status.
New Delhi would not be diverted: India was the global power-in-the-making, Pakistan the failing state.
“We expected a long impasse,” said a source. “The question was who would crack?"
The answer is now clear: Pakistan.
India accepts the Pakistani leader Nawaz Sharif went the extra mile at the meeting and at some political cost at home.
It was evident for several months that Pakistan’s “confidence levels had been falling.” To some degree, this had reached dangerous levels.
Intelligence showed that the Pakistan military had been expanding its engagement with militant groups – a possible precursor to a terrorist strike.
Lol. Total domestic consumption. Indians like having their anus tickled.
Even before Modi played the "rusi vi bhao" Pakistan approached India with prospects of peace and mutual collaboration. This was directly after the Modi's coronation as India's greatest messiah. Almost 2 years on, it's still the same.
India achieved nothing. Kashmir is still in dispute, firings still on the LOC (heck Pakistanis using snipers now, lol), alleged terror camps still in full swing in Pakistan (allegedly), Pakistan still the nuisance-pariah-failed-state which India can't bear (albeit with better ties to Russia and a brighter future outlook than it has had in a long time)...
If anything's changed it's Pakistan's almost daily disclosures to the world of subversive activities being perpetrated by R&AW this side of the border, and the dunce cap which the Indian ministers have put on with statements like the one in my signature.
Diplomatically, as with all other things, India only got poorer among the comity of nations. If anything suffered, it wasn't Pakistan, but the prospect of enduring peace in this region. Peace, will always be a fleeting notion, however, because China, Pakistan and Bangladesh border what is inherently a hostile and terrorist state.
