05 January, 2012 Deal for 7th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge signed

The government signed an agreement with a Chinese company for construction of the much- expected 7th Bangladesh- China Friendship Bridge (Kazirtack bridge) over the river Arial Khan along with three other bridges on the Madaripur- Shariatpur-Chandpur road.
Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department Md. Abdul Quddus and Vice- General Manager of Anhui Construction Engineering Group Overseas Development Co. of China Jin Chuan Zong signed an agreement on Tuesday to build the bridges at a total cost of Taka 275.55 crore. Of the total investment Taka 200 crore will be received as loan while the remaining Taka 75 crore will be provided by government. The construction works of the bridges would be completed in 2014.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader, Secretary of Road Division M A N Siddique, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Xianyi witnessed the signing ceremony when senior officials of the ministry were present.
Quader said the construction of the bridges on Madaripur-Shariatpur and Chandpur road would facilitate smooth movement of people in the region along with easy transportation of agricultural products.
