99% of jobs consist of pen-pushing.

99% of jobs consist of pen-pushing.

The term 'pen-pushing' may be going out of usage. So brushing up it's meaning before starting.

Pen-pushing means the banal paper-work, clerical type work.

99% of jobs involve a considerable amount of pen-pushing.

Be it the profession of mechanical engineering, be it information technology, be it civil engineering, be it medical, be it surgery, be it espionage in intelligence organization, be it acting in films, be it television, be it literature, be it military, be it sports, be it research in science and mathematics, be it trade and commerce, be it merchant shipping, be it politics, be it civic and administration, be it teaching, be it detective work, be it law-enforcement, be it counter-insurgency, be it theater, be it music, be it artistry, be it dentistry, be it tailoring, be it fashion designing, be it cooking, be it culinary, be it outer space research, be it driving public transport like buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws, be it portering, pen-pushing is there in everything. However riveting, interesting and glamourous the job may seem, pen-pushing is there in everything.

It is not that pen-pushing is unnecessary or useless but pen-pushing is there in everything. Don't be deceived by attractive perceptions.

The only profession in which pen-pushing is less is that of prostitution and allied fields like pornography, etcetera.
Yeah and when they are busted by police even they have to do a heck of pen-pushing. Nothing can be free of pen-pushing totally.

Thanks for the tag mate. Its necessary evil and delegation helps with this. That said, I find volume of meetings even more annoying, and worst one, when people sitting two desks away, send you an email.
Delegation? Not automation? Is there any solution? So do we have to trouble our subordinates?

I use delegation as avenue for development within my team and people love it. In my job, if I try to do everything on my own, I'll in office till 10pm everyday. Priortisation also helps. Automation is not always practical, especially if there is cost/benefit equation.
