What's new

9.24 night Washington D.C, Obama meet Xi but looks unhappy like before

. .
Obama is angry that China helped Russia.

Without China's loan of $70 billion and numerous signing of 30-year projects, Russia would be on the ropes.

The US defeated and absorbed the Warsaw Pact. The US defeated and partially absorbed the former Soviet Republics. However, the US can't defeat Russia with Chinese support.

Hence, the tension in US-China relations.
----------

Most people's understanding is upside-down.

It was China's support for Russia and the effect on EU/NATO enlargement in Ukraine that really mattered.

The US stirring up trouble in the South China Sea and cyber-hacking allegations are payback for China's support of Russia.
----------

On the geopolitical chessboard, the most important piece right now is Ukraine. It's a huge Texas-sized country with 45 million people. The EU population would jump 10% overnight.

The EU/NATO/US really want to bring Ukraine into the western alliance. Russia said "no." However, without China's support, Russia would collapse economically.

Thus, China's support is absolutely critical if Putin wants to remain in power. As long as Russians have jobs and an export market for oil, gas, metals, etc. in China then Putin can stay as president for as long as he likes.

Do you really believe Russia is in just as good a shape as it was before the Ukranian mess??

The oil stuff may be helping Putin... but not the people.

You are too impatient.

The China-Russia natural gas deal won't be completed until 2018 or 2019. All of the Sino-Russian projects will take a few years to kick in. In the meantime, China is loaning tens of billions of dollars to Russia.

The outlook for Russia is pretty sunny. They just have to weather the next few years with Chinese loans.

Hence, Obama is meeting Putin next week at the UN meetings. The US knows that it can't beat Russia and has to talk to the Russians.

Well until your projects kick in it looks like Russia is the one hurting the most so there is no rush to change anything.

Or maybe on this front china didn't said anything to obama ... as USA can easily go default on china's loans and thats what clearly you can see on obama's face when properly put up by XI...

Obama looks like a defeated person already ,he clearly didn't know what XI is going to bring up ... but china is coming up stronger then USA ,... they have put worried face on obama for the reasons still not known...

game is on

The cyber hacking allegations against China are to put pressure on China. After the Snowden revelations, China was on the attack and the US was always playing defence. The US needed to make up something to go on the attack and put China on the defensive. China was going to kick out US tech firms out of China so the US came up with a bogus story and threatened to sanction China which will make China not kick out those US tech firms.

China is still not on the defence. There is no "tough talks" by Obama and there will never be. China is America's biggest creditor and Obama knows that.
