A 7.3-magnitude earthquake rocked Haiti on Tuesday (local time) and is feared to have killed thousands of people in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

Eight Chinese peacekeepers in Haiti were buried and 10 are missing, Liu Xiangyang, vice president of China's national earthquake disaster emergency rescue team told China Daily January 13.

After the strong earthquake, China sent a rescue team which consists of 50 people, 3 rescue dogs and some related equipment to Haiti to assist in disaster relief. The rescue team left on Wednesday afternoon.

It is understood that China has deployed 125 peacekeepers, including 6 female peacekeepers, to Haiti.

RIP these brave people who sacrificed themselves for helping these Haitians. Do you know if these 8 dead and 10 missing are due to earthquake or just the violence there?!

I don't beleive that it is the custom of the people of Haiti to bury alive peacekeepers who come to their country. So in all probabilities the peacekeepers were buried alive by the earthquake :undecided:

I was just fearing this. We must regard the 18 unlucky Chinese peace keepers as martyrs.

It is very sad. A national sorrow.

Our enemies must be feeling happy now. But to our enemies, our message is that China is a big nation, China can afford the martyrdom of 18 people. :china:

They died for a noble cause. They are an inspiration to the world, matyrs of Asia and an example of Chinese humanity. May their soulds rest in peace. They have indeed set a high standard for all of China as exemplary examples of self sacrifice :china:

Only if rest of the Indians start thinking the way you think.... alas, it will not happen.... :undecided:

Thank you dost....

Only an ignorant, foolish person will not appreciate the sacrifice of peacekeepers. Asia is a forerunner in peacekeeping activities and many children of Asia such as Pakistanis, Indians, Chinese etc have sacrificised their lives for causes unrelated to their own countries or continent. These peacekeepers are a prime example of that. They are heroes not only to China but to the entire civilised world

my prayers for the chinese families - -as well as for the half a million odd dead people's families in hait

This is a great tragedy for Haiti and the Chinese effort to help Haiti. We should all appreciate that the PRC is stepping out into the world to render humanitarian assistance and to support UN missions. Thank you China and we are so sorry for your loss.
