74 Andhra lawmakers quit over Telangana issue

Can't we all just ignore munshiji and discuss the topic at hand?

I've heard that the region of Telengna is quite affuent as compared to other parts of AP. They feel that they are being exploited by the state ruling class and the taxes are spent on other regions. Would any Andhraiite like to comment on that?

What is there to comment man, it again comes back to the political class and their exploitation of this region in particular. In Andhra the people are a little better of than Telangana because of already wealthy people and plenty of agricultural based opportunities too. Also the Education percentage was on the lower side here when compared to Coastal Andhra side, The leaders in telangana traditionally exploited the people and ate all the development funds completely. The region has suffered a lot no doubt, but it was the leaders who should be bearing the brunt of responsibility here.

There were such agitations before too, infact the previous ones were brutal in nature compared to now. What sets apart the current one to the previous ones is the fact that media with its usual stupidity played on all the wrong ends and this drove the movement into hearts and minds of common people. However the sad part is that , everybody think that once a seperate state is formed all their woes will end which is not the case. This is a fact everybody knows i mean even those agitating!!!! The thing is while the general public is not averse to a state thing they are ok if it does not happen too because of various reasons like the coastal andhra people are the ones generating most of the revenue here in hyderabad. If a state comes we will move back to our places or to the coastal side as already IT industry and other major companies have set up their divisions in Vizag and there are plans to build more in other parts of Coastal Andhra. What about the local people who strive on small business like selling food or working as cab drivers or other such ventures ?? A few people with vested interests are behind this movement and ultimately they want to establish their political families for decades to come. Of these the biggest jackal and ba...........d is this KCR. It is a public knowledge that just because he hadn't got the political he wanted he started this movement.

this thread starter seems to be delusional to me . creation of a smaller state is equated with the break up of India . i have been watching a lot of pakistani news talk shows on U TUBE , amazing how they have been saying that India will break up in a few months . !!! . Mind you you could take it on face value , but then there is just one fact . they have been saying it for 5 yrs now .:coffee:

Telangana bandh paralyses life in Andhra
Ganesh S Lakshman, TNN | Jul 5, 2011, 01.45pm IST

HYDERABAD: TThe Telangana region faced a shutdown on Tuesday in pursuance to a 48-hour bandh call given by the pro-separate state elements even as more resignations continued to mount pressure on the Congress high command to take a call on Telangana.

As expected, life came to a virtual standstill in all the 10 Telangana districts with public transport, autos and train services staying off while shops and establishments, cinemas and shopping malls remained shut. In Hyderabad too, the bandh was near total with the streets wearing a deserted look and shops downing shutters.

Till late in the afternoon, the bandh was by and large peaceful except for some violence in Osmania University and a stray incident of a private bus being torched by miscreants in LB Nagar. The violence in OU was triggered by rebel TDP Telangana MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy's arrest by the cops when he tried to enter the campus a little before noon. In protest against this, about 100-odd students gathered near Arts College. Anticipating trouble, the police shut the entrance door to the campus on the Vidyanagar side to which the students reacted by pelting stones at the security personnel. Three rounds of teargas shells were fired to disperse the students.

In the meantime, the day began with more resignations. TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao representing Mahabubnagar constituency, whose resignation was demanded by many other leaders from the region, faxed his letter to Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar around midnight while his fellow party colleague from Medak Vijayashanti faxed her resignation to the speaker around 9 am on Tuesday. By the evening, the 11 TRS MLAs are also likely to submit their resignations to deputy speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

The day also saw the TRS and other Telangana activists target those ministers and MLAs from the region who did not submit their resignations, in particular Danam Nagender, Mukesh Goud, Marri Shashidhar Reddy and P Shankar Rao, all of whose residences in the city were turned into fortresses. But unable to bear the heat, textiles minister Shankar Rao faxed his resignation to the deputy speaker by noon.

Even as New Delhi put up an impression of taking the issue a bit more serious, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana independently held talks with senior officials while senior police officials were monitoring the law and order situation across the Telangana region.

In New Delhi, after their near-two hour meeting with AICC general secretary in-charge of AP Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday morning, the group of Congress MPs and MLAs said they have been told to stay put for another round of talks after Azad discusses the situation with the Congress top brass. As a result, the stalemate on the vexed Telangana issue continues.

It would be prudent to dont drag Pakistan into this internal affair of bharat. and focus on your own faults to include different areas into other odds ones

thank you.

All-party meeting on Telangana unlikely soon

An all-party meeting on the Telangana issue in the near future appears unlikely with the Congress on Tuesday saying that such an exercise needs to be preceded by talks with the people of different regions of Andhra Pradesh and political parties.

“We won’t jump straightaway to all-party meeting, we will have to first talk to people of Andhra Pradesh and people of other political parties and different regions,” party general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad told NDTV.

Mr. Azad, who is in-charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh, said that those agitating for a separate Telangana want some process to start and “this is the time we have to take a decision on this issue“.

Dismissing suggestions that the UPA coalition at the Centre was in a crisis in the wake of the resignation of several MPs, he, however, said that “the fact of the matter is that there is a problem and it is going on for sometime.”

“It is a sensitive and a complex issue which requires wider consultations,” Mr. Azad said, adding that earlier in the day he had “very cordial” discussions with MPs and representatives of legislators.

He said these representatives want a discussion to start and “they asked me why no consultations have started. So this is the stage where we are left and I am sure that we will have to start consultations.”

Let them have their state. I hope sense prevails and we are able to work out an agreeable formula for division of Andhra Pradesh.

Btw, Jana seems to be on top of the news! ;)

ormal life in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh was disrupted on Tuesday due to the two-day bandh called by the Telangana political Joint action Committee (JAC) in support of their demand for a separate state.

Schools, colleges, shops and other commercial establishments were closed and public transport services were hit due to the bandh in all Telangana districts.

The JAC, which has announced a series of protests in support of the separate statehood call, has also called for a rail blockade on July 8 and 9.

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) suspended its services at various places as a precautionary measures and commuters had a tough time reaching their destinations.

The bandh supporters held demonstrations and stopped vehicular movement at various places.

City buses of APSRTC in Hyderabad largely remained off the roads and consequently, the auto drivers had a field day.

Police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of the bandh and no untoward incidents was reported from anywhere in the morning hours.

JAC has also planned to organise the blockade of national highways and other protests in the coming days, TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao announced on Monday after a meeting of the JAC. The JAC comprises TRS, BJP and a number of peoples’ organisations.

Banking services hit by bandh

Banking and financial activities have come to a standstill in Telangana region due to the bandh call.

According to All India Bank Officers Association, banking transactions worth Rs 20,000 crore will be affected during these two days as most of the 5,000 odd branches of all banks in the region may remain closed.

V Anil Kumar, General Secretary, AIBOA, Andhra Pradesh unit said that the total transactions of all banks put together in Telangana region will be around Rs 10,000 crore per day.

“Most of the branches will be closed in the region fearing attacks. We are more worried about bank properties.

Some of the branches of Andhra Bank in Telangana were attacked during bandhs in the past. We do not want that,” Anil Kumar told PTI.

Though clearing houses will not be affected today, the same may affect tomorrow as people cannot deposit cheques today.

It will take three days for bank employees to clear the backlog, he added.

According to an official spokesperson of All India Insurance Employees Association, the bandh may show affect on insurance premium collection in the region.

I support a separate Telangana State from Andhra. A smaller state is much easy to administer and the same has been the experience in case ofUttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Bihar

Actually not in this case. There would be unnecessary conflicts between these new states if they are formed. There would also be a major water conflict. This would have never happened if YSR was still alive. KCR is just taking advantage of people's sentiments and exploiting them for his political gain. Media is just playing along. Its just sad state of affairs. Much of the agitation is about not having enough representation of Telangana in governance. But in general, people from coastal Andhra are better educated than those from Telangana. Instead of raising their own educational standards, they think by agitating for another state they can solve their issues. Its ignorant way of looking at the issue.

. .
My only source of first hand knowledge about the Telegana Issue is from a Telegana friend of mine. His supports a separate Telegana state as he feels that Andhraites dominate the economy of Telegana leaving very little to the natives of Telagana. He accuses Andharites of whisking away resources from Telegana and keeping it backward so as to build Coastal Andhra. Finally he concludes the main reason for Andhraites dead against Telegana is because they don't want to lose their business interests in Hydeabad, as this city will become the new capital of Telegana State.

I don't know how much of the above is true. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
