Watch AIB’s new Independence Day video on India’s exit from Britain

The Day India Resigned video, imagining the happenings on Independence Day eve, will leave you pleasantly surprised. (YouTube)

It is true that 90% of the video’s jokes turn on dumb puns arising from characters with thick accents - India played by Utsav Chakraborty and Britain played by Nick Pillow - or humorous speech impediments. But once you get past that, it has a charmingly deliberate goofiness, a sense of humour about its own dumbness that is not so far removed from the tone of a lot of the stuff that comes out of AIB.

As you’d expect, much of the video’s humour involves hero India, mocking Britain and vice-versa. In fact, there are a couple of lines in the video that actually made us laugh.

    Sample:

Britain: Oh! India! And you’re... on time? You must be really looking forward to this exit interview. Would you like some Darjeeling tea?

India: No, thanks. I had some when I made it for you for the last 300 years.

Britain: Oh! Let me tell you just what a splendid job you did.

India: Let’s just get this done with.

Britain: How do you like your relationship with your immediate supervisors.

India: I guess they were nice people. Every once in a while they would hang us. And randomly sometimes on weekends they would shoot us in the leg. Otherwise really polite. (Slay)

Written by Utsav Chakraborty, Devaiah Bopanna, Vignesh Raja, Dhruv Chawla, Pranav Tonsekar, Shreyas Manohar, it also guest stars Tanmay Bhatt as Pakistan.
