Early reports suggested the crash was the result of a plastic air intake cover mistakenly being left on one of the engines.

Indian do not need helping hand. They are well known for poor maintenance or incompetent pilot. If IAF plane crashed. Nobody will be shocked or surprise. It's routine for them. The only shock will be IAF plane don't crashed.

I have no idea what the brits did but it would be impossible for the raincover to be missed on a big US carrier because they have to use the engines to drive to the catapults and then throttle multiple times to get connected. If the covers were on they'd be going nowhere.
